"Why don't we step outside for a few minutes?" I asked, "I'd like some air."

"Of course, there's a balcony out the back way." she led me toward a door that said STAFF ONLY. After going down several hallways, and I made sure to make a mental note of each to find my way back, we finally reached a small, private balcony.

"Here we are..." she spread her arms to gesture around the area.

"Yes, very... private." I murmured, sweeping her up in my grasp. She smiled.

"If you wanted privacy I'm sure I could find us something more... equipped." The last word on her tongue held a thousand implications.

"This is plenty private enough my love." I pressed my lips against hers gently, slowly the kiss became more aggressive. Her nails dug into my back as pinned her against the balcony. My hand crept for the gun tucked away in the back of my jeans. Only, when my hand grabbed for it, it met air.

"Looking for something?" She whispered against my lips. My eyes flew open to see my own .9mm pressed against my stomach. I mentally cursed myself.

Damn it.

"What in the name of God is going on here?" The mayor stepped up to us, bewildered.

"Nothing sir, just Nicole getting a little carried away with herself, that's all. Hand over the gun, sweetheart." I held my hand out, she eyed me suspiciously.

"Nicole!" The mayor spat. She gave up, slapping the gun in my hand. I put it back in its rightful spot as the mayor looked between us both. "Please try to keep your... twisted activities away from guests."

"Yes sir." I nodded, folding my arms across my chest. The mayor left. Nicole just stared at me.

"What, dearest?" I stepped toward her.

"You were going to shoot me." she said curtly and a little shakily.

More like kill you...

"No, I was most certainly not going to shoot you." I kept a smooth poker face look.

"Then why else would you have that gun?"

          "For protection, duh."

She seemed to simmer down a bit. I pulled her near me.

"Nikki, you know I wouldn't hurt you. I love you." I tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear. She smiled, trying to cover her displeasure with me.

"You mean it?" It was an honest question.

They mean it when they say the truth hurts.

          "No." I whispered.

The gunshot wasn't very loud, thanks to an installed silencer. The bullet had pierced her abdomen and followed through to exit the left side of her spine. I held her up to hear her speak.

"I really.... d-did love you..." she looked into my eyes as her life slowly faded away. Her eyes closed and I let her body slide to the cold ground, which soon her body will be too.
