The Party You Have Dialed....

I live inside my head too much

this damned imagination

So many voices in my ear

say she's just not on station

We write the script and make the plan

but is the page the same

When she's not where and when she said

do miscues bear the blame

Before this technologic age

when time was less precise

And schedules were not meted out

as fifteen minute slices

I wasn't quite so insecure

with where I stood with her

Our lives once meshed together more

than seems now to occur

We're now so wrapped in reaching out

the ways we keep in touch

Facebook is the newest one

but she's not on it much

She and I have each a cell phone

land line also for the house

When our well worn rut is broken

one of us begins to grouse

When she's not where I can call her

dreadful movie starts to spin

Anxious ramping ramping skyward

causing heart to race within

All these years it still hits me this

nameless fear when order breaks

Fore brain says that change is easy

Back brain really ups the stakes.

All the angst that you are reading

happens deep within the skin

When my dreadful visions prove wrong

outside won't show inner spin

When back channel contact breaks down

the kid in me just wants to scream

But I'm training, investigating

Higher self knows we're a team

60 years you'd think I know now

rein my thoughts, look for the best

Maybe lessons learning this time

will help me now to pass the test
