The next day I woke up, it was terrible. The feeling, my parents...everything was perfect and it just came crashing down. Wtf....
The nurse came to give me my breakfast, I was starving, but I refused to eat it.
"Honey, I know you've been through a lot, but the only way you're going to get better is to eat something." She said gently.
"I don't want to get better." I say under my breath.
"What was that sweetie?" She asked.
"I'm not hungry." I say louder. The nurse stayed there for a bit, but I refused to eat, and she eventually gave up.
A week and a half later, Mason and I were released from the hospital. I walked slowly with my crutches. When I got to the waiting room, I saw Aunt Katherine and Uncle Matt smiling, Aunt Katherine gave a little wave. I was confused....
"What are you guys doing here?" I asked.
"Sweetie, you're going to living with us in Florida." Aunt Katherine explained.
"What? I want to stay here." I responded immediately. Uncle Matt came up to me and rubbed my back,
"We know, but you'll have to come to Florida. I'm sorry Acaya." He apologized.
Mason walked into the room,
"Hey guys." He smiled.
"We're moving to Florida." I say, irritated.
A week later we were flying to Florida at 8am, I had said goodbye to all my friends. But the thing I would miss most, is the house. All the memories we've had in there, with mom and dad...every time it made me choke up. I look outside the plane window, the wistful clouds were pretty, floating there. Mason was beside me, on his phone.
"So, why are you so calm about this? Aren't you mad we have to move?" I asked. Mason turned toward me,
"It's not like I want to move Acaya. But, Aunt K and Uncle Matt are doing the best they can. We'd be in foster homes if they didn't take us in. Just try to see it a different way Acaya." He explained.
"But it's ridiculous and unfair." I replied angrily.
"Whatever." He sighs. I turn away and face the back of the seat in front of me, frustratedly.~~8 hrs~~
We finally arrive in Florida, we get in the car and the moving truck follows us. We pull up to a beautiful, modern big house. There was a gate to the long driveway, it was so beautiful.
"Welcome home." Aunt Katherine says, pulling into the driveway. We halt to a stop and we get out slowly, I hobble alittle, and go inside. It's huge,
"You're house, is so big." I blurt out.
"Haha thank you sweetie." Aunt K chuckles. She motions me to follow her up the stairs, "Do you need help?" She asks politely.
"No thanks." I replied. We head down the stairs and to the right, down a wide hallway. Then we turn into a room that has a queen sized bed, and a drawer. I see a two doors covered with a curtain, I slowly walk there and open the door. It leads out onto a balcony, the view was phenomenal.
"Wow." I whisper.
"I'm going to help your Uncle. I'll just let you settle in." Aunt k calls out. I don't say anything.
Mason knocks on my door, as in hanging up clothes.
"Hey, what's up?" I ask.
"How ya doing?" He asked.
"I'm alright." I shrug.
"Okay, dinner is in 10." Mason informs. I nod and Mason leaves, I set out a picture frame of the whole family, mom's smile, Dad's laugh, we all look so happy. I smile, my heart swells a little, a tear drops, I wipe my face, and sniffle a little.
At dinner, it was quiet at first, then Uncle Matt said,
"So, Mason and Acaya. Since you'll be living with us now, you'll be going to school. Any ideas what you want for back to school stuff? It's coming up, in like, oh let's see." He paused. "A month." He finishes.
"I don't really know, just school stuff for me." Mason chimes in, Uncle Matt nods then turns toward me.
"Idk, probably school stuff and clothes maybe." I say uncomfortably. He nods, and we go back to silence and eating. After dinner, I help with the dishes, and so does Mason.
"So what do you think of all of this?" I asked, curious.
"I think I'm fine about it. I mean, I miss mom a lot and my friends. But, Aunt K and Uncle Matt are doing their best for us. They've helped us a lot, and now is not the time to push them away." Mason replies.
"I'm not pushing them away, I just don't like any of this at all." I say, irritated.
"Just try to be more friendly Acaya. You know you haven't really shown it." Mason says, uneasy.
"I'll try, no promises though." I warn him.
The next month was boring and emotional. All wanted to do was lay in bed, but physical therapy didn't let me do that. Mason was healed already, he was pretty much full recovered. My arm was doing better, still in a cast and so was my leg, it was a pain.
"Ugh, I'm sick of these fucking crutches." I complained, as I sat down in a chair and threw my crutches at the floor. Aunt K and Uncle Matt were at work. Mason walked in,
"You okay?" He asked, biting into an apple.
"No." I say back.
"You'll only have to have the cast on for one week into school, I think." Mason reminds me.
"Still, it's awkward." I complain, sighing heavily.
"Well, see ya. I'm gonna go for a run." Mason says walking past me and touching my shoulder gently.
"Okay." I say. I heard the door shut, and just sat there. There was 2 weeks until school started...I was in no way ready. I've never been to a new school, we had always stayed at the same school. I never wanted to move to Florida at all, I wish everything was how it used to be.
