I hear you saying those words
Confirming all of my fears.
Lodged in my throat are
Bittersweet tears.
I thought you were
Mine and mine alone.
But you're saying goodbye
Bittersweetly into the phone.
How could you do this?
I thought you were satisfied.
But you have gone
And left a bittersweet me behind.
And the bittersweet tears
Are choking me.
Telling me that I was never enough,
Nor will I ever be.
And I should be happy
That you're out of my life, I know.
But for some reason,
I just can't let it go.
Because even though
You broke me beyond repair.
I would be broken all over again
Just for the memories we were able to share.
The laughter
The fun.
All of those memories
With my special someone.
But that is gone
And never to return
And I am left here
Bittersweetly to burn.
And burn I will
Though I haven't done anything wrong.
But all insecurities are still here
Telling me that I can't be strong.
And even if I could
It wouldn't be enough for you.
But I still try
And that I will always do.
