"Hey" I said to the new kid, Houston. It was the first day of school. Houston looked like one of those kids who had been popular at their old school and then had to start all over again because they moved. We'll let me tell ya, him hanging out with me was not going to boost up his popularity. But to be honest, that was doing him a huge favor.

"Hey" he said back, looking down. He had brown hair, and looked mexican? I couldn't be sure since his head was facing the empty lunch table we sat at. He wore a grey quarter sleeve shirt, skinny jenes, and a flower head crown with pink roses on it. He caught me looking at it.

"Before you ask, no, I'm not gay". If I was texting him I would have said 'lol ik I just like your crown', but it didn't seem like the right thing to say at the time.

"I figured. I just think it's a cool fashion statement. Kind of, zayn malik and harry styles had a baby"

"Thanks? I guess" he looked at me now, in the eye, for just a few seconds. I wondered what I looked like to him. I could only imagine.
Sitting before him was me, a girl wearing a dark red tribal tank top, black leggings (I was so hot though!) (Temperature wise), curly hair, all black converse, brown skin, and a peeling, sunburnt nose.

"What?" I asked, after 10 seconds of him looking at me.

"You're different, aren't you?" He asked, rhetorically. I have to admit, I was quite surprised. I hadnt ever really heard that in that sense before. Ok, I had absolutely never heard that before, let alone with that amount of....feeling?

I had no idea what to say. "Actually, I'm just like you. you just don't know it yet".

Houston's POV

"you're different, aren't you?" I had no idea where that came from. I might have blown my only chance at a friendship. Now she's gonna take it the wrong way and-

"Actually, I'm just like you. You just don't know it yet". The bell rang. She slung her grey Jansport backpack over her shoulder before walking off to her next class, looking me in the eye the whole time.

how do you like it so far? I don't think I'm going to keep writing unless I see people actively reading, so read this if you want me to continue without stopping! It is going to get more interesting I swear, I just have to make sure you like the idea before I keep going! Also, I'm not quite positive on the book title yet, so If it keeps changing thats why.
