-PIPER'S POV-
*beep* *beep* *beep*
I wake up to the smell of ginger snaps baking and the oven going off. The smell draws me to conclusions. I can't sleep with that heavenly smell wafting into my room. Slowly I open my eyes but know what is coming. Blinding light hits my eyes as I adjust to the morning light coming through my blinds. Hiding back under my blankets I walk with it over my head to the bathroom. When I go back to my room I grab my blanket and head downstairs. When I look out through the window I see white. Snow covers the ground and the trees. Slowly I walk to the kitchen following the smell of the cookies. I see my mom walking towards the oven while putting an oven mit on. When she turns around with the cookies in hand she slightly jumps when she sees me. "Pipes!!"She shouts and almost drops the cookies, "You scared me!". "Mommy! I'm not scary!" I say. "Of course not" she replies. I nodding my head slowly. "Here, have a ginger snap pipes." I walk over to where she has laid them on the table. Sitting down on the chair I reach across the table and grab the biggest cookie on the tray. I take it over to the couch and sit down to watch my favorite Christmas movie, Frosty the Snowman.
Every Christmas I watch this movie and my mom makes cookies. I guess you could say it's a tradition. We used to go to the Christmas lights on Christmas Eve and my dad would tell different stories about all the lights. On Christmas Day he would take us out sledding on the hill by the towns dam, after we opened gifts. Later when we got home mom would make us hot Coco while we started making a snowman. It had a corncob pipe and a button nose, with two eyes made out of coal. We named it frosty, and would tell each other, when the snow started melting, that we would see him next year. I always find it hard to believe that last year was the last time I would ever see frosty again.
Our new tradition was with just me and mom. I was only six, which would have been two years ago, when my mom and dad started to fight. I never knew what it was about but mom said she would tell me when I was older. But I wish I knew then, that it would be a lot longer than I suspected until I was told.
