Just one week later and everything was going as planned. My group didn't mess with him - mainly because they didn't know anything about him - and he was in an entirely different group than us. Unfortunately, news had been spreading around and people are starting to talk about how the new kid is gay. The news hadn't reached our group yet. I think.

"Kellin! What are you gonna do today?" Gabe came up behind me as I was walking out to the track for practice in my gym shorts and a t-shirt.

I grinned, looking back at him and shrugging, "I dunno. I think Coach Sykes has something in mind for the whole team."

He rolled his eyes, and we proceeded to do our warm up lap around the track and our drills before getting a short break, and we broke off into our groups. Eveyone came over to where I was, stretching for long jump.

"Guys, did you hear about the new guy, whats-his-face, Vic or something?" Gabe spoke up, grabbing the groups attention.

"Yeah. Apparently he's gay. Thats what everyone is saying." Jaime sneered, spitting out the word 'gay' as if he drank something foul.

I bit my lip, not knowing what to say, and Gabe and Matty obviously weren't expecting such a negative reaction from them. I didn't have a problem with it, but it's my best friends. I can't just suddenly turn different in front of them. I was quiet as they continued talking about different issues, and I just focused on stretching, waiting for my long jump coach to get here but he never did. Looking around, I realized none of the coaches were here except Sykes. Slowly, everybody seemed to notice and I stood up.

"Hey, where are all the coaches?" I asked out loud, running a hand through my shaggy black hair.

Everyone else stood up and shrugged as Coach blew his whistle, signalling people to walk over to him. We did as instructed, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Vic walking towards us from the locker rooms, obviously a bit late, and Sykes eyed him in distaste for not showing up on time on his first practice. Once the guys of my group saw him, they all started snickering and whispering to one another, like elementary kids. All of them except Matty and Gabe. They actually tried paying attention to what our coach was saying.

"Attention, kids. Today, instead of having a normal practice, we're going to do a relay related exercise," at this, all the shot put, javelin, and disc players groaned in annoyance, none of them being ones for relays, "You will be in groups of eight, and it will be an eight by two, which means there will be four people per lap you do. I'm sure you all understand, now, get in your groups quickly or you'll all do a mile tomorrow. We have no time to waste."

I smiled, relays being my part of excellence. Of course, we all stayed together, but there was only five people, so we took some of the sprinters that we mutually talked to a bit, and we had our team and I grabbed a yellow baton. It would be exactly like the game against Ceadarcrest the other day. Simple, fast, and easy.

We waited one more minute, all of us getting the order set up as to who was running first and who was passing to who. We would be lane 4, our lucky lane, and we would kick ass.

Skipping over everything, we did end up kicking ass, and we did this the entire practice session. By the end of it, we were all worn out and sweaty, and sore too.

"Damn, Quinn. How the hell do you do these all the time? I'm exhausted." Jaime said to me, walking beside me as we were going to the locker room.

I just shrugged, walking in and taking my sweaty shirt off, "I dunno. I'm built for it." I said simply, going to my locker and changing back into my clothes.

As everyone was flooding in and changing, I noticed that Vic wasn't there for some reason. He had to have changed somewhere. I started wondering why he was late for practice today, then wondering if maybe he had to stay after school with one of his teachers for a bit. Or maybe it was campus security, cause they hate everyone.

"Kells? Earth to Kellin, helloo!" I jumped out of my slight trance when Matty waved his hand in my face.

"Huh? What?" I asked, looking at him and he grinned at me.

"You were totally zoning out at the wall, what were you thinkin about, Bostwick?" Matty hopped off the lockers and stood next to me, grabbing our backpacks and I glared at him for saying 'Bostwick'.

"I dunno, man. Can we kinda talk outside?" I asked, glancing at all the other track and baseball guys who were coming in and changing after practice ended.

Luckily, Matty nodded and we walked out the back doors of the locker room, sighing softly. We walked for a bit, sitting where we normally waited for the after school bus to pick us up and take us home.

"So.. what were you thinking about, Kells?" Matty asked me again, and I shrugged, looking at my lap after I sat down.

"That Vic kid. I haven't seen him at practice since he came here and the first day he is here, I didn't see him in the locker room before or after practices-"

"Wait, how did you notice that? I didn't even notice the kid was late until Coach was talking to him about being late to practice." Matty interuptted me, and I furrowed my eyebrows, thinking to myself about how I did notice that.

"I, uh, I really don't know. I just kinda realized it without realizing it?" I replied, looking back up at him, "But, anyway, I didn't see Vic either times before or after practice and he was late. I had to lead Vic around the first day he was here and Vic seemed like such a cool guy, y'know? I'm kinda wondering like, what's going on and if he's one of those assholes in disguise."

Matty stopped and thought to himself for a bit, simply shrugging, "I dunno. He smelled like cigars when we were standing next to each other during practice, so maybe he just goes somewhere else and smokes before practice?"

I didn't notice Vic smelled like smoke at all, but then again I was rarely near him at all, so I wouldn't have noticed anyway. Sighing, I perked up when the busses came around the back of the school and people started loading on to whatever bus they normally take. I parted ways with Matty, putting in my earbuds and drowning out the loudness of my bus the entire hour and a half ride home, but I did see a glimps of what looked like Vic on the side of the road, and then the whole ride was suddenly just me thinking about him as I was going home.
