Silver Lining

The Mist stays close to the forest ground while the Cloud flies above the trees in the sky. How is it possible the two will ever meet?

It was a camping trip that Reborn organized for the Vongola Decimo and his guardians. As usual, the Cloud hates to be part of the group. Chrome had seen how Hibari would always stay far from the pack and watch them from afar while moving ahead first. He always had that strange look in his eyes that was not any form of detest for the group. She had always thought it was a warm look and was curious of it.

Hibari knew that in the rowdy group, only two people in there were close to the true answer of his gaze. The first was the baseball star who everyone else thought was an idiot. The second was the quiet girl. He noticed that she was always watching, always standing by the side lines like him.

Everybody panicked over the disappearance of the girl and had been making a lot of noise over it. Hibari on the other hand did not partake in any of their meaningless discussions. He went to search for her alone while they fought.

He followed the small signs and trails she left behind and located her with ease. The Cloud and the Mist were very close to each other yet they were always far apart. The only silver lining that brought them together was when the altitude was high enough. Cloud and Mist blend together on the top of the world. If only the ground wasn't so far from the sky and the Mist didn't prefer to lurk in the mundane mortal world.

Hibari walked to the highest point of the mountain he could find and reached a clearing near the cliff.

Chrome stood at the edge, the wind sweeping her hair back. Her eyes focused on something far away. Hibari approached her slowly. She felt his presence behind her but made no attempt to move.

"My old self liked to come to the cliff whenever my parents argued. It always mocked me, the cliff, to jump off and end everything."

Hibari said nothing but opted to wait for her to continue.

"You had this kind of experience as well didn't you? That's why you took on to fighting and becoming stronger. That gaze of yours is always lingering on the group and especially on boss because they reminded you of yourself." It wasn't a suggestion or a guess, it was a statement. Hibari made no attempt to refute it.

Hibari starred at her. Chrome closed her eyes and sighed. "It's the same everywhere like what Mukuro-sama said. Yet I foolishly cling onto hope. Am I not pathetic?"

Hibari finally spoke, "No." He cringed at how quickly his reply had been.

Chrome turned around to face him with slightly widened eyes. "Wanting to be saved is a foolish hope but wanting to be the one who save is not. You are strong. Have more faith in yourself, herbivore. The rest are worried about you." The aloof man spoke smoothly without changing his expression.

With that he turned heel and walked back to the forest. Chrome stared at the now empty space where Hibari previously was. A small smile crept to her face as she whispered to the wind "Silver lining huh?" Then she disappeared in mist, leaving behind only her footprints as proof that she had been there.

The wind whistled through the leaves and pushed the mist out of the woods to meet the cloud passing by the cliff. It was clear at last that hope came from not the sun or sky but when the mist and cloud come together, creating a silver lining.

A certain infant tipped his fedora shadowing his eyes as a smirk made its way to his unnaturally young face. Things were going as planned.
