Adela

I can't possibly wear this... The thought burns through my mind as I look at myself in the mirror. This can't be me.  The girl in the mirror is like an upgraded version of me.  The dress.... Is something else.  The normal dress for any young lady is large, poofy and it takes up space. This is the total opposite.  A tight white dress is clinging to my curves.  The intricate silver detailing trails all over the bodice looks like branches.  It stops mid-thigh and almost gave my father a heart-attack, so she added a thin layer, that's almost see-through, of lace to act as a longer skirt over the original.  There is even a small gap in the front, so when I walk, it opens slightly and looks beautiful. The one thing that shocked me is the color.  You don't see many white ball dresses, so this will definitely be a new experience.

After Mother put my hair into a braided updo and makeup artists dabbed on my makeup, I was ready to go.  All I could think about was, 'I feel like this won't be an ordinary ball.'

-

"Adela, sweetie, we are here." The sound of my mother's voice brings me out a daze. I nod and follow her up the steps of the palace.  A sense of intimidation washed over me as i walked into the lit up ballroom.  I hear my parents saying that they were going to socialize, but I was captured by all of the beautiful lights hanging all around the room.  I did have a chance to study the room.

The large room was colored in grey and blood red.  Which is expected, as they are the royal family's colors. It doesn't look as dark as some think.  Grey silk hangs from the ceiling and as the royal emblem and grey table cloths are accompanied with  by red napkins  and red roses.  Everything ties into one another.  If it wasn't, the queen would have someone's head.

As I was looking around the room, I didn't notice the wall in front of me.  I look up to find a guy instead of the wall I thought I felt. I feel scarlet coating my cheeks as I stare up at this god-like figure. What drew me in first was his eyes. The emerald color just captured my attention faster than I ever imagined, but I still had the strength to study the rest of him. He had a sharp jaw and full lips that just made him even better.  His tousled caramel hair peaks out of his tilting hat. It must of messed up when I ran into him.  I then noticed his attire. A fitted suit is not helping me in the drooling department. The grey guard uniform looked amazing on him.  Overall, he is what some of my friends deem as sex on legs.

I manage to break his gaze, but as soon as I did, my scarlet coloring became 10x worse.

"Wow, your eyes..."

Our voices were heard simultaneously over the music of the ballroom. That just made me swoon even more. He broke the silence first.

"They're v-"

"Violet. Yes, I know. Only violet eyes in the whole kingdom." I finish before he could finish the sentence I have heard over a hundred times.

"Actually, I was going to say that they are very beautiful." That left me speechless. You would think that I would have heard that before, but I haven't.  I always hear "special" and "rare". Never beautiful, not even from my own family.

"I-I.. Thank you." I then remember the hat.  My subconscious kicks in and I gingerly reach for his hat. As I make it  level once more, I notice his eyes never once left me. I could feel his stare as I then I did something worse. I moved my hands to straighten and flatten out his jacket. That action plus my earlier act made my head hurt from how intense everything suddenly became.

A deep chuckle escapes him. "I guess it's my turn to say thank you." I just smile at his comment. After a minute I realized that we were in a room filed with people. The noise suddenly rushes to my ears and it is almost unbearable.

"I-" I began to speak, but was soon interrupted.

"Lady Adela!" A stout man waddles over to us. It is William Harris. My parents want me to marry me off to his son, Xander. This plan has bee going on for a while, but I found out fairly quickly. "Xander has been asking for you. He's by the banquet hall."

All I do is nod. Xander is not bad, but he is overly confident. William doesn't take long to be distracted by the food and finally left us alone. "So... boyfriend?"

"He wishes."

"Who wouldn't." I swear, everything that comes out of his mouth makes me turn into a fire truck.

"Hunny! Queen Leah wants to meet you!" My mother appears out of nowhere. With a tug of my hand, I was being pulled away from my spot. I turn to look at the green eyed man.

"I never got your name!"

"You will find out soon enough!" And with that, I was whisked away by my mother to King Stephen and Queen Leah. I am soon met by a man and woman with respect practically glowing from them. Queen Leah is a beautiful woman with caramel curls and blue eyes and King Stephen was a tall man with Raven hair and brown eyes. They radiated power.

"This is the violet eyed girl everyone seems to talk about." The Queen exclaims. She seems like an okay person, but I can't shake off the stare the king is giving me. Almost like he is studying me. I don't really get a good feeling from him. "So Adela, have you met anyone interesting so far? We invited many families."

"I suppose you could say that." I say as I think of the man with deep green eyes.
