CHAPTER SIX

All with her amazing words

MY brother climbed back into his car after his conversation with our dad.

"What did he say?" I asked.

"Bantayan daw kita."

Napangiwi ako. Nagsisisi ako bakit nga ba tinanong ko pa.

With a long groan, I looked outside the window. Can't they just leave me alone? My brother's with me the whole time, well, unless he's in class or doing something more important than me.

As we arrived at the reception, a smile escaped my lips when I saw my mom. She looked so beautiful in her wedding gown.

Gerald and I sat on our reserved seats. Around us, there were a lot of guests, food and drinks. I wonder why they chose August as their wedding day. To me, December was a great month for weddings.

It was a two-storey in the center of a small pleasant park. There were two colors for the wedding–green and white, so all guests were dressed in clothes in these colors. The groom was really excited, running from one guest to another asking if they're having fun or if they need something, but we all knew that he cared and waited only for his beautiful bride, my mom.

My mom and dad divorced about ten years ago. Their marriage didn't last because to mom, dad was never the right one. Funny, isn't it? She married him only to leave him one day because she realized he was never the right one for her. Why did she even marry him if she hadn't seen forever in his eyes?

"Tapos na 'yong wedding ceremony?" tanong ko kay Gerald.

"We arrived late, so yeah, the wedding ceremony's done. But the real party's just getting started so you don't have to worry."

My lips curved into a small smile. I know he planned it all. Coming late to mom's wedding, sitting on a table a few meters away from my mom's new family. Gerald didn't want to see me cry or hurt if I ever saw my mom exchanging vows with another man, so he made sure that the wedding ceremony's done kapag dumating kami.

Sometimes, I love Ger for protecting me. He's like a savior. Not just in my dating life.

"Is that Guatamyel?" my brother suddenly asked, his eyes aimed at my left side.

"Dest?" I asked. Slowly, I looked over my shoulder and there I saw Hel.

I don't know why, but it felt like it would've been better if it's Dest.

His blue eyes met my brown ones, so I immediately looked away and avoided his eyes.

"Why is he here?" Baling ko kay Gerald.

Gerald shrugged. He waited for Helix to look in our direction and when he finally did, tumayo na siya saka naglakad papalapit sa 'min.

"Hey, didn't expect to see you guys here," Helix said, tapping my brother on one shoulder.
