As expected, the dinner didn't go well, with the emotional gap seemingly impossible to bridge.
"Maybe if got your head out of those books and started socialising, I would like you more!" Eric growled.
Disgust spread across Hollie's face. "Well, maybe if you spent more time with me and got to know me better, I would want to be with you."
"So this is my fault now?" Eric whispered furiously.
"No. . . well, partly, but-"
"What now?! What are you going to say now?!"
They sat in a deadly silence, and the tensions lessened from palpable to an unpleasant buzz.
"You are such an embarrassment!" He muttered.
Just as dessert was being served, the tables started wobbling. The guests stared out the windows and down at Earth. The largest earthquake Hollie had ever seen shook through South America, cracking it like an egg. It was as if they were watching a disaster movie; safe behind the screen but still horrified.
'We are still safe up here.' Eric announced. Hollie on the other hand, wasn't so sure.
The hotel's support cables had shattered from the quake and was swinging up towards the resort at an alarming speed.
"Run!" Hollie shouted at everyone and they scrambled for the exit. She and a few others ran through the closing door just as the cable, thicker than a tree trunk, smashed into the glass. The pillars holding up the room collapsed and the remaining guests were sucked into the cold vacuum of space...
