Tough Luck

Chapter 2

"Hey! Scarlett wake up! Can you hear me!" Asks a familiar voice "Scarlett!"

I roll over slowly to see someone kneeling over me. Although my head is spinning and my vision is blurred I immediately recognize who it is.

"Cameron?" I ask in a sobbing voice.

"Are you okay? What happened?" he asks. At this all the memories come back as to why am under this tree in the middle of the night. My mother is dead. I pull him into a forceful embrace and begin to cry immensely into his shirt.

"What's wrong?" He urges

"M-my M-om...." I whimper unable to finish the sentence

"What about your Mom?" He asks with deep concern

"S-she's d-dead" I stutter before being overwhelmed by yet another fit of crying . "My D-dad is in a coma and..... the d-doctor said that he might not make it as well." I continue heart broken. At this he keeps silent for a few moments rocking me back and fourth trying to comfort me. I continue crying with the thought that this all must be a dream. I realize it's not when I feel a warm substance running down my forehead. Blood. I must of hit my head when I blacked out.

"Your bleeding!" He changes the subject. Probably for the best. He takes out his wallet and retrieves a single band aid and a tissue. After wiping the blood from my head he gently puts the band aid over the abrasion. To be honest I couldn't care less if half my head is scraped off. The only thing I want is for my parents to be in my arms.

After 10 minutes the stress of what happened had caused me to black out again. When I woke I found myself in the bed of an unfamiliar room. I stared at the ceiling for what felt like hours until I heard footsteps outside the door.
"Scarlet? Are you awake?" Someone asks

I slowly sit up choosing not to answer.
"There's some food downstairs" I see that it's Cameron.

"I need to see her" I whisper. He stays silent until I ask " Can you please come with me Cameron?"

"Of course I will" he replies comfortingly  "I'll get you some clean clothes then we'll leave straight away"
