"But you can call me Zach."

In front of me stood what could only be described as a football player. I was a sucker for football players.

Zach had spiky brown hair with dyed-red tips that perfectly contrasted his emerald eyes. His nose had a faint sign that it had once been broken, but had been fixed since then. His face had multiple laugh lines; they surrounded his eyes and outlined the corners of his mouth. Zach's biceps bulged against his shirt sleeves. He clenched his jaw waiting for a response.

"I'm Mackenzie, but everyone just calls me Mac." I replied, turning back to the sink to finish the macaroni.

He chuckled. "So we're Mac and Zach, huh?"

"I guess so." I said. I turned back around, holding the pot of macaroni. "Want food?"

"Always!" he replied, dropping his bags on the ground and grabbing a bowl. He jumped up and down like a child as he waited for his food. "Aw man, I'm starving!"

"Well don't expect much more because I'm claiming the pot." I said sitting at the table and placing it before me.

He sat down across from me and cocked his head, chewing. "Let's see..." he looked at me. "Athlete, high school valedictorian, popular girl,  and..." he put another spoonful of macaroni in his mouth before finishing, "only child."

"Almost."

"Dammit. I don't deserve this macaroni." he said sliding it toward me.

"More for me!" I said reaching for it.

He pulled it back. "I'm going to eat it anyway."

I crossed my arms and pretended to frown. "Meanie."

"You have the whole pot!" he said, grinning. It was quite adorable. "So what did I get wrong?"

"I have a younger sister. Her name is Maddie and she'd probably be very mad at you for knowing all that about me except that I had her."

"Well tell her I apologize and that I'm sure she is very memorable. Now, my turn!" he said eagerly.

I dropped my fork and pulled my knees up to my chest and looked at him. "Star football player, uh... B student, most popular guy in high school and..." I bit my lip and pulled it into my mouth. "I don't know."

"Pretty close Macaroni."

"Macaroni?" I asked, smiling.

"I'll work on it." He shrugged. "But yeah. I was starting receiver and team captain of my high school football team. I earned As and Bs most of the year. And," he chuckled, "yeah, I knew a lot of people." he smiled at me. "Tell me about Mac. Other than what I already know."

"Okay so what do you want to know?"

"Umm... Where are you from?" he asked.

I chewed the food in my mouth before answering. "North Carolina, you?"

"Kansas." he replied.

"My turn!" I said formulating a question in my mind.

"You just asked a question!" he said, spreading his hands on the table.

"Technically, you did." I said, smirking and shoveling more macaroni in my mouth.

"Fine." he said. "Shoot." He leaned back in his chair, raising the front legs off the ground.

"Do you watch football?" I asked, raising my eyebrow.

"That's a great get-to-know-you question." he teased. "But yes. I'm a huge Chief's fan. "
