✧*。01; WIND &WARM SMILES。*✧
mia and zayn.

the air was windy in the park and blew vigorously causing mia's hair to thrash about. It was an unusually cool September day, sunny but cool, and the blonde girl had been strolling around the park for a bit now. She was spending my summer in Bradford in her sisters home while she was away in Paris for the next few months. Her ma had figured watching the place could be a good experience for Mia to be on her own a bit. Like sort of a little adventure to prepare her for when she eventually did move out which wouldn't be much longer now.

At eighteen years of age Mia Hamilton had decided to take a year off and not go to college so she could figure out what she wanted to do with her life. At first her parents hadn't been to keen with the idea, Mia's mother especially, but eventually they figured they trusted their daughter to make the right decision so they let her do her thing and take a year off to figure her future out. Mia was thankful because even if she had gone the college route she wasn't even sure what she would have studied. Mia had always enjoyed to write and photography by all her teachers had told her that those were hobbies, not life long careers.

And in that moment while Mia dwelled on her situation, a large gust of wind blew her floppy beige sun hat right of her head and the wind carried it towards the water. Mia gasped and threw her arms out to catch it but she wasn't a very tall person so she just watched panicked while it flew away. Mia cried out to no one in particular squealing "oh no" knowing that there was nothing she could do about her now probably gone forever, favourite hat. But as she pouted rather upset, a tall skinny figure raced from behind her. A boy who she had not even known was behind her chased after Mia's hat and she watched in awe.

He waded into the lake fetching the soggy thing that had fallen into the water. Mia covered her mouth with her hands while he quickly made his way over to her extending a dripping hand with the girls soaked hat. "Oh my god thank you so much," Mia cried taking the object from his long fingers. The boy smiled warmly and nodded. "Yeah no problem. When I was six a bird took me favourite stuffed bear and dropped it in the water. Didn't want you to feel the way i did having my possession taken from me so i figured id help out," he shrugged in a somewhat strong accent.

Mia smiled back and the two both stood there in silence for a moment. His dark hair was up in a fluffy quiff and while he gazed out at perpetually nothing Mia couldn't help but admire how his eyes seemed to sparkle. Then her eyes trailed down to his soaked jeans. "Oh you're all wet," she frowned feeling a bit guilty that he had to walk around in damp clothing now which was one of her personal pet peeves. "Oh don't worry about it. I'm just glad you've got your hat back. You looked rather nice it it," he awkwardly smiled causing Mia to blush at his compliment.

"Um im Mia by the way," the blonde girl stated extending a hand out trying to break the awkward silence. And then she mentally slapped herself because she didn't know why she introduced herself. Sometimes when she was nervous she would just blurt random things without even thinking before she spoke. Between the silence and the two of them just awkwardly standing there, Mia didn't want to be rude and just take off so she did the next best thing she could think of which wasn't even all that great. He probably thought Mia was socially impaired or annoying. Maybe both. But none the less he responded.

"Im Zayn, nice to meet you," the now identified boy Zayn replied shaking her hand softly with a firm grip. Mia nodded and he rubbed the back of his neck. "So are you from here. I mean that's kind of a stupid question since you're obviously american but-," he trailed on. Mia figured he was just carrying on the conversation because neither of them knew what to do and both figured they might offend one another by just walking away. This was the thing about strangers; there's always the possibility they may be a serial killer or rapist of they could be one of the nicest people you've ever met.

People usually tend to go with the first option. But Mia guessed that this summer was all about taking chances for her and plus he had saved her favourite hat so she answered. "Um i grew up in New York and moved to London when I was maybe twelve. I'm staying in my older sisters home for the summer to watch over it while she's away on holiday," Mia explained tucking a chunk of hair behind her ear. Zayn nodded and swayed side to side a bit. "Oh, well that's cool," he responded putting his hands in the pockets of his ripped black skinny jeans.

"Um so you're nineteen yeah ? And by the way i hope I'm not coming off as creepy or something. I guess it's pretty weird for a stranger to be asking all of these questions. You're just really pretty and it can get sort of lonely in Bradford sometimes and it never hurts to meet new people but we don't really know each other so I can see why this is a bit odd," the boy rambled almost forgetting what he was even saying. Mia just lightly laughed and shook my head. "No no. Don't worry about it it's fine. I trust that you won't kill me or something. But yeah I'm nineteen, you as well," she replied.

The boy looked relieved that Mia wasn't creeped out by him and then nodded in answer to my question. She had always been told never to talk to strangers but Mia figured she wouldn't see this boy ever again so she thought it polite to just talk to him. "Um well yeah. Thanks for saving my hat. This thing was like £50 so im glad all that money didn't go to waste," Mia thanked once again. Zayn nodded and bit at his bottom lip. "Yeah no problem. It was my pleasure to help out a pretty girl," he confessed. Mia blushed at his words before shaking her head in objection.

"Oh I'm not pretty," she laughed lightly. But Zayn just plastered a puzzled look to his face. "No really you are. I wish there were more beauties like you in Bradford," he said. Mia's cheeks heated up and she just smiled at the ground. She hadn't been the happiest with her image when she was a young teen so by this quite honestly aesthetically pleasing boy calling her pretty it made her stomach do flips. Mia just breathed out a thank you a bit baffled not knowing what else to say.

"Yeah of course," he smiled warmly yet again. A smile Mia started to find quite beautiful. "Well uh, I'll be seeing you then. It was nice meeting you." She nodded in agreement and gave him a small wave goodbye before taking off smiling like a fool. Mia clutched her soggy sun hat and figured now was as good of anytime to go back home for a cup of tea and an Audrey Hepburn movie. So Mia made her way home and the whole way there she couldn't help but admire the sparkly eyed boy whom she figured she, unfortunately, would probably never see again.
