I let out the breath that I didn't know I was holding. Whoa. This girl is something else. "Captain, everything ok?" A voice snapped me out of my thoughts. "Yes, yes, I'm fine. Go! I need to think about what to do with her." I said nodding my head in the direction where Alex is being held. Sam left the room leaving me to my thoughts.
I sat down behind my desk and lost myself in my thoughts. No matter how hard I tried, my mind kept wandering to Alex. She was beautiful. She was half a head shorter than me. She had dark brown hair with natural blonde highlights that flowed halfway down her back in gentle waves. She chocolate brown eyes that had traces of green and blue. Her cheeks were pink from the heat and her lips were cherry red. She wore a green hood that was rough and fraying around the edges. Underneath the hood she wore a black tank top. She also wore a pair of tight black pants that were torn. God this woman is going to be the death of me.
"So want are you planning on doing with me?" I stood up instantly searched my pockets for my dagger. "What looking for this?" There in the corner of the room was Alex, twisting my dagger in her hands. I raised an eyebrow in her direction. "I'm a thief remember, it's what I do." I walked forward and grabbed my dagger from her hands. "Let me guess, cut the rope with my dagger." She smirked and dumped a pile of rope on the floor. "Of course." She walked forward and shut the door. "Now this can go two ways." I said moving forward. "You can cooperate or you can go back you your room." She launched at me and swung her fist. I caught it. "Uh, uh, uh. Not quite." She came at me again this time knocking me to the floor and her landing on top of me.
"Now love, it's time for me to teach you a lesson. Lesson number three. Know your opponent and their weakness." She raised her arm and went for a punch. I grabbed her arm and used her weight and power against her and flipped her so she was underneath me. "See your weakness is your aggression." I pinned her arms above her head. "Escape from this love." She stopped struggling and looked me in the face. "Ok I think I know my opponents weakness." She said as she analysed my face. "Oh really and what is that my dear?"
Before I could say anything else, her lips crushed against mine. Her lips were soft and tasted like apple. My grip on her loosened as I got lost in the taste of her lips.
She kicked me in the stomach and sent me flying backwards. She flipped up and walked towards the door. "Lesson number four. Don't let your opponent distract you." She blew a kiss and ran out the door. I was right... she is going to be the death of me.
I get up and run out the door after her. "Wait!" She kept on running before coming to an abrupt halt. "Oh, I forgot to mention, this is a ship love. Welcome to the Captain's Gambit!" She turn around to face me, now looking irritated. She stood up on the ledge at the edge of the ship but continued to face me. "Look love, we're out in the middle of the ocean. My job is to deliver you to the land dead or alive. Personally I don't actually care which it is as long as I get paid. So really it's your decision."
Just then a wave hit the ship and Alex fell forwards. I quickly caught her before she hit the ground. "I thought you didn't care about what happened to me." She said. I put her back on the ground and straightened myself up. "I don't." I grunted and walked away. I stormed into my office and slammed the door. God what is happening to me? That woman is messing with my mind. I subconsciously put my fingers to my lips remembering the kiss. Damn!
I walked back outside now calm. "Well lovey, now it's your chance to make a decision. You can A. Cooperate and maybe we could sort out some nicer living quarters. Or B. Not cooperate and go back to that dark room with chains instead of ropes. Personally I suggest you take the first option." She came towards me until we were less than a centimetre apart. "I promise I will cooperate until we reach land, however when we do I cannot promise I will hang around to be sold like a slave. Do we have a deal?" She took a step back and held out her hand for me to shake.
"Well I guess that's the best I will get. Men! We now have a guest with us!" With that I walked away and signalled for her to follow. "Now here is your new chamber. I think you'll find it a lot nicer than your previous accommodation. There is a room in the corner for you to freshen up and some clothes in the chest over there. Come and see me when you're done. You know where to find me." With that I bowed my head and turned to leave.
"Why? Why the sudden change? You were trying to kill me just a little while ago." I shrugged and turned back. "I told you, you're our guest."
I left her and I went back to my cabin which was still a mess. I picked up my dagger which lay on the ground near the doorway. Then Alex burst through the doorway. "This isn't going to work for me." My mouth dropped open so far that it could have hit the floor. She was wearing a white off the shoulder blouse and a black corset over the top. She also wore a black and green layered skirt that reach the floor. She looked hot. "Wow. I'm sorry I don't see the problem here." She folded her arms and was now looking irritated. "I can't move in this skirt and I think this corset just broke one of my ribs!" She walked forward and grabbed my dagger that sat in front of me. She grabbed a bit of her skirt and sliced the material in two. Now the skirt sat just above her knees.
"Much better." She said now a lot more satisfied with the state of here outfit. "Well now that we've taken care of that we should discuss some rules. You are free to wander the ship and do whatever you please, the only rule is don't damage anything." She fidgeted with the bottom of her corset. "Don't worry, the only damage I'm worried about is the damage this corset is causing on my spleen." I smirked and adjusted some ties on her back. "Don't worry you'll get used to it."
I stepped back and went to sit down again. "Why are you doing this?" She asked with genuine curiosity in her voice. "I thought we'd had this conversation already love. You're our guest now." I smiled and took out a piece of paper from a draw in me desk. "No, why did you change your mind. Why am I no longer your prisoner?" I shrugged not bothering to look up from my paper. "The reasons behind my actions is actually a long story." I said as I started to sketch something on the paper. She came closer and pulled up a chair. "Well then lucky I have a lot of time." She said whilst getting comfortable in her chair.
I sat back in my chair and looked at her. Her eyes were filled with childlike wonder and curiosity. "Please, I want to know why." She said as she grabbed my hand. "As you wish." I said, slightly taken back by the tenderness and sincerity in her voice.
"I wasn't always a captain of a pirate ship, I was once the captain of a royal navy ship. I would go on expeditions for the royal family, doing everything from exploring new places to diplomatic missions. However on one trip my ship was boarded by pirates. They killed every member of my crew and took me prisoner. I was stuck in a cold dark room for days with my hands and feet bound together. One day a member of the pirate's crew came down and gave me food. I spotted a dagger tucked in to the back of his belt. I carefully swiped it from him when he turned to leave. Once he was gone I quickly cut the ropes on my hand and feet and ran out the door. When I reached the deck I was surrounded by his crew and the only way out, was off the ship. I prepared to dive but the pirate captain stopped me. He offered me the same deal that I offered you. That is why I am doing this. You see this dagger, this is the dagger I stole from the pirate who had brought me the food." I said as I held up my dagger.
Her eyes widened as she realised what I was talking about. "I reminded you of you." I nodded and placed the dagger back on the desk. She shook her head and regained her composure. "But then how did you end up the captain of this pirate ship?" She asked. "That is a story for another time love." I said as I pointed to the door. "If you'd excuse me I have some work to do." I stated as I flicked my hand, as if dismissing her. She stood up and stormed out of the room.
I looked down at the paper in front of me and looked at what I had drawn. Her. I had drawn her. What's happening to me? I had never told anyone that story before and only a few members of my crew knew what happened. I just feel like myself around her. I'm not some big, bad, scary pirate captain, I'm just Scott.
