It is only pass three in the morning when I finally hear the front door click open. Signalling me that mum has just arrived.

I didn't go to bed all night. It was because of two reasons.

One, whenever I close my eyes all I could see is a constant reply of what happened to Rebecca.

Two, I have this faint feeling of fear that he would might come back again. It's not likely to happen, but I still just can't seem to shake it off.

The light to the living room turns on and in comes mum. Her eyes immediately land on me as she spots me lying on the sofa.

"Evelyn?" she speaks as her eyebrows etch together in confusement. "Why are you still up?" she asks.

She walks over to me and sit beside me on the sofa. Once she's settled I crouch backwards and lay my head on her lap. I look up to her with a frown.

"I couldn't sleep." I admit.

She sighs and stays quiet for a little as if she's thinking.

"Is it because of what happened?" she asks and I slowly nod. She places her hand over mine for comfort. Rubbing delicate traces before speaking again.

"You don't have to be afraid... I'm here for you." she says and I immediately sit up and look at her.

"No no it's not that mum." I shake my head.

"Then what is it?" she asks.

"I... I just feel a bit guilty." I shrug.

"For what?"

"For Rebecca... I should've talked to you earlier, and hopefully by then you could've been there in time to stop him.But I didn't..." I trail off and she finally understands what I'm trying to say.

"It's not your fault." she reassures but that doesn't seems to comfort me.

"It is..." I breath out.

"Don't worry she'll be okay." she says.

"Any new leads?" I ask and she shakes her head.

"No not yet."

"Oh."

We stay in silent for few more minutes. Both of us lost in our own thoughts.

This one question keeps popping in my head that I really need to know the answer to it. But I'm afraid of how she would react.

Sure I've asked her the same question many times earlier today but the way she is staying there in silent I believe she doesn't have enough energy to fight back about it.

So I go for it.

"Mum," I speak up.

"Hmm?"

Biting my lip I think again before asking her.

"Who were you and Lizzie talking about?"

she sighs "Evelyn I thought I told you to drop that subject." she narrows her eyes at me and I gulp nervously.

To my surprise she gives in and answer my question.

"It's this man who's been on loose for long a time," she explains. "Yet we have no clue who is, where he is, nor what he looks like." she says.

"What?" I ask, puzzled.

Mum just shakes her. "Never mind, it's best for you to not know anything about him." she says before standing up.

"Come on. Let's go to sleep." she says and I oblige. Not bothering to ask anything else for I know she's very tired.

"Okay."
