The first three periods of the day fly by in time. As the lunch bell rings, I am close to the last to exit out of the classroom. I head towards my locker, silently praying I don't see Dallas there. As I near my locker, I am relieved that he's not there. Good. I hope he's found another person to be a jerk to and show him around. I open my locker and drop all of my books off. I close the locker, only to be startled by someone behind the locker door. Of course, its Dallas.
"Oh my god! Never do that again, you scared the hell out of me!" I yell at him.
"Well hello to you too." He smirks.
"If you think that I am going to show you around anymore, you might as well be crazy." I say a little more harshly then I intended. For a minute his face falls but he recovers instantly.
"I had actually came to drop off some books in my locker-" he started and I frowned. Of course. Why am I being so self centered? I nod and shut my locker, turning to walk away, when I feel a hand grab my wrist.
"Hey now, wait. I was only messing with you. I came here to apologize from earlier this morning. I was a bit of an asshole, I will give you that." He says. I look down, his hand is still gripping my wrist. He must of noticed because he immediately pulled away and dropped his hand back by his side.
"Uhm. Its fine. I was just a bit over emotional, I tend to do that. Shall we start over?" I ask.
Smiling, he says "Hi, I'm Dallas. I'm new and I've just moved here from Virginia. Its nice to meet you." He holds out his hand and I slowly take it.
"Hi Dallas. I'm Bailee. I believe I'm supposed to show you around?" I smile.
"Yes you are. Now, where is the cafeteria because I'm starving!" He says.
I laugh, like genuinely laugh. I haven't laughed in a while. I had a few forced ones or some chuckles here and there but never a full on laugh.
We walk to the cafeteria and I show him where the lines are. He ends up getting the chicken sand which, which I call the mystery meat sand which, while I stick with a salad. I actually am not a salad person, but when it comes to school food, its all I eat because I can actually know what I'm eating.
After a few minutes of sitting down, I see a sight I don't want to see. Cali and her pack of dogs, walking towards our table. Dallas must have noticed my face paling and sudden change of mood, because he turned around to look in the direction I am.
"Oh girls, look who it is! Little Miss Bailee! Isn't she just so pathetic? She thought she actually had a chance with Aaden! How cute." She laughs, and the others follow. I stayed quiet, and looked down to continue eating.
"She's pathetic? You should hear yourself. Stop acting like a two year old. Put actual clothes on while you're at it will you?" Dallas scoffs. I look up to see Cali wide-eyed and just as shocked as I am.
"Well.. Well" she starts to say something, but grunts and storms off towards her table. I turn to look at Dallas but he is already looking.
"Uhm thanks for that." I say quietly.
"What was that all about?" He asks.
"It was nothing." I say. I don't want to tell him that she is the girl Aaden cheated on me with. I'd be humiliated. I can't imagine what everyone else in the school who have heard thinks about all of this. They probably understand that Aaden is too good for me.
We eat the rest of our lunch in silence and I show him to all of his other classes. The last bell rings, marking the end of the day. I quickly rush out to the parking lot, so I don't run into Aaden or Cali again. I see Dallas standing next to my jeep.
