Mistakes

The wind of the past pushing our backs

To never look back on a broken pact

To never take our past mistakes

To never break the promises we make.

We always wish them the very best

When we're only fighting the ultimate test

To stop ourselves from crying over

The luck we lost with a four-leaf clover

The heart that broke when he turned around

And left you alone with your head down.

We always act like we're still strong

When we're secretly wondering what went wrong

What could have happened to send you away

We might see each other again someday

But until then my heart hangs low

At the look on your face as I watched you go.

You made the empty promise to call

So we can stop to look back on it all

But you seem to have neglected to mention

She'd have all of your attention

Every time I called your phone

I left a message at the tone

Because you were doing something with her

Things that you and I did when we were.

I wish I could just count to ten

To restart it all, play the movie again

To retake the picture, put it all in rewind

To go back to when you were mine

You left me for some unknown reason

Our love lasted only a season

But if I had done something better than I did

Would you have stayed instead of hid?

But I can't be blamed for being myself

I'll just be another book on your shelf

Another chapter in your book of lies

All but a glimmer in your bright blue eyes

That have dimmed with every girl you dated

One day loved, next day hated

You said it's you, that it's not me

Now that I've seen you, I can see

That that was the only truth you told

You took a risk, you were too bold

I feel so used, so cheated, so broken

The things you gave me are merely a token

Of how you mistreated the love I was in

You played me like a violin

With all these mistakes, all these tries

I'll walk away with my head held high

Because there's never any knowledge or experience to earn

Without the mistakes you make and the lessons you learn.
