Chapter I

Mead knew he had to capitalize on the fact that his neighbors across the street were always partying every weekend, this was supposed to be an advantage for him as a teenager but he was not the party-type. Instead he preferred to go for educational seminars that he thinks will benefit his life much more than parties.

Mead was an average heighted boy of 19 with a lanky physique and jet black hair, as young as he is, he was already getting facial hair which complements his hair line. He was the type of guy who loved to wear shirts than Tshirts so he would appear older than his age, especially since his physique was the type that people don't take seriously.

However his lack of a socal life led to a need, or craving for the good life he sees his peers living, and since Mead was tired of being made fun of by his mates, especially since he'll be 20 soon and doesn't have a female friend.

It was not that Mead was shy or insecure around girls but rather, Mead decided to reduce his relationship with girls of his age because he sees it as 'unproductive' and 'meaningless'.

"You have got to be kidding me!" Chad screamed, his mouth wide open as he receives the biggest excuse for being shy.

"Unproductive and meaningless?" Chad continued, "That's your best excuse for being a loser?"

"I never said I was shy around girls, I just don't have time for them" Mead replied, starting to feel uncomfortable especially since his 'talk-down' was happening in front of his younger sister.

It was like a clash of cymbals as Janet bursted into a wild laughter she couldn't keep to herself no more, the look on Mead's face changed as Chad started to chuckle as well.

"M!.... That was very lame bro! If you don't have time now, when will you? When you're old and grey? Come on man!" Chad reacts by tapping Mead in the chest as he said so.

"Listen man... Do you hear that?" Chad continued

"No... This isn't another of your fart pranks is it?" Mead replied getting upset.

"No man! Listen! Hear that beat! It's coming from across the street, making me have some kind of treat..."

"Yes yes I hear it," Mead cuts in before Chad starts his rapping "I hear it all the time especially when am trying to get some rest."

"What rest? Rest from what? Are you crazy man?! We shouldn't even be in this house right now!" Chad retorted to the ridicule of Mead's statement. "This is why your life is lousy, this is why chicks don't talk to you!"

"Your point being?" Mead asked with one of his infamous sarcastic tones

"You're hopeless man..." Chad replied, giving up on the helplessness of the situation.

"I am happy you think like me too Chad, I have always told my brother how hopeless his situation is... "

"Janet! Shut up and go to your room!"

But Janet was already on her way to her room before Mead could finish his words.

"M! I leave you alone for 2 months, and this happens.." Chad started, sat comfortably in the sofa and crossed his legs before he opened his wide mouth to continue his chiding.

"One... "

"I am not ready for another one of your chiding lectures Chad"

Mead cuts in before his cousin could complete his words, there was silence before Chad broke the silence.

"Why don't you just try tonight? Mingle a little... It's just across the street you know?"

Mead did not talk, instead he stared at Chad for a long moment till Chad thought Mead would punch him in the face.

"Just tonight... I don't have much to do tonight anyways"

"Man! You've never had anything to do...." Mead throws a threatening glance at him "Sorry." even though he need not apologize, Chad felt Mead had had enough of his chiding for one evening.

"Yeah" Mead stood up from the sofa he was and went to the window, peering across the street to Fred's house. Fred was an old friend who used to visit Mead a few months ago, he had just spent barely a year in the neighborhood and yet he is well known by his neighbors, his parents however don't talk about his excessive partying mostly because they barely lived at home, giving Fred the freedom every teenager wished for.

"M? It's almost seven o'clock" Chad started," If you are going to the party, it's better we leave soon"

"I am having second thoughts Chad, Fred and I haven't talked in two months now," Mead said turning to Chad who was already on his feet "You think he'd let me in?"

Chad said nothing, instead he went to the front door and grabbed hold of the door handle.

"There's only one way to find out"

"Hold on," Mead entered his sister's room and gives her instructions to keep while he's away.

"... And tell mum I might stay out late tonight." Mead left his sister all alone and headed to the party.
