Chapter 4

Isabella was sitting in the chair by her window when she saw a carriage pull up. Her sister Margaret and her new newly betrothed, James, walked into the house. Isabella sighed and stood up.

She wished that Sir William thought of her like that. But it appeared that he only thought of her as a little sister. She was in love with someone who thought of her as a little sister.

It made Isabella feel depressed as she collapsed on her bed. It was 11:57. Charlie would be up in a few minutes, if he could go through with it. Even though he was the help, Isabella could feel herself truly loving him.

She didn’t know how to handle loving two people at once, so she stuck to loving Sir William, even though if she had truly loved Sir William, she would not have fallen for Charlie. Isabella was a romantic at heart. She believed in true love, but was hesitant when it came to one person for everyone. Although as she grew closer to Sir William, she was slowly changing her mind about it and started to believe Sir William was the one she was destined to be with.

11:59. Charlie would be in her room in a minute. She couldn’t wait to see him. Was it wrong of her to be excited to see someone of the staff?

12:00. The door creaked open and Charlie stepped in through the gap. He kicked his boots off and made his way to the bed, lying next to Isabella.

“What’s wrong? Issy?” Charlie whispered.

No one had called her Issy since she was young. When Isabella and her sister were younger, Margaret had called her Issy, as had Katie, even Charlie, although he had not been as close to the three of them.

“I don’t know. I love Sir William, but I think I am starting to love you.” She looked up at Charlie as she said the last three words.

“You know what Issy. I think I’m falling for you too.” Charlie whispered moving closer to Isabella.

Charlie wrapped his arms around Isabella and she rolled onto her side she that her back was against his front.

“Lie with me tonight.” Isabella whispered a faint trace of a sob in the back of her throat.

Charlie pulled her closer and stroked her hair. “Of course Issy. I love you.”

Isabella awoke, still encompassed by Charlie’s arms. She had fallen asleep to the sound of Charlie’s faint, but adorable snoring. The last thing she remembered was Charlie saying that he loved her.

She knew deep down she loved Charlie, but she couldn’t find the courage to tell him what he had told her.

She placed her hands over his and pulled them up them up to her mouth. She slowly kissed his knuckles until he started to stir. Isabella rolled over so he would be able to see her first when she woke up.

“I could get used to waking up next to you.” Charlie said before pulling Isabella into a kiss.

The touch of his lips on hers sent sparks of electricity down her spine all the way to her toes. She could feel her toes curling and her back arcing as his arms slid down her to her waist. One hand slid a bit further to touch her bottom, before returning back to the waist. They were well into the kiss when a knock at the door sent them flying apart.
