"Thank you for shopping at food mart!" The cashier said smiling. I nodded grabbed the bag of eggs my mom wanted and left. I looked at the bus stop, and decided to walk home instead. It was a nice day today I thought to myself as I rounded the block. On my way home I saw three kids sitting in a bench near the park eating ice cream talking and laughing. I instantly remembered my brother and sister. I smiled as I remembered us three sitting in that same bench when we were younger. The last being 6 years ago. And even though I was 10 years old at that time, I still remember it like it was just yesterday. I felt a tear coming down my left cheek as I remembered my 10 year old self hugging them both as they both left for school.
"Aspen, we'll be back before you know it." Gigi told me kissing me on the cheek.
" Yeah, we'll be back for Thanksgiving, Christmas and even Easter" Kendall said smiling down at me
"Even Halloween?" I asked him hoping he would say yes.
He laughed " I don't know Aspen, but every time we get the chance, we'll call you and send you letters. Okay?" Gigi nodded while, he leaned down and kissed my forehead.
"Kids! It's time to leave!" My dad said coming toward us with my mom.
"Family hug!" She said and we all hugged and then they both kissed my mom and me before they got in the car. My dad turned and kissed my mom on the lips and me in my head. " I'll be back before dinner." He told us and got in the car taking Gigi and Kendall to the airport.
"Mommy?" She turned to me and smiled. " Why do they have to go so far away if they're only going to school? Why can't they go to school here?" I asked her.
"Sweetie, they have too. Your dad and I went to school there when we were sixteen, and you'll go there when you're sixteen as well." She smiled and kissed me on my temple. " I'll go fix u a snack, and don't worry, you'll see them soon." She said and I believed her. But she was wrong it was the last time I saw them.
I looked away from the children and continued walking home.
