“BREE!!!” called Kristina, my best friend for life. We were having a sleepover and I woke up to see her hovering over me, wearing a really grown up outfit, which for me, was very… different. Kristina had the past of being a party girl, and always mixing it up. Her stile was funky, but on her it looked amazing. http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/app
“Kris, it’s a Saturday!” I said as I rubbed my eyes and looked at her. She looked extremely grown up. “Wow,” I continued. “Don’t go out there, or else all the men will mistake you for 30 instead of 17.”
“Ha-ha,” she said. “Very funny. But seriously, I’m going for a job interview.”
“You’re kidding right?”
“Why would I lie about that? I don’t want to be the ‘Party Girl’ anymore.
“So you went out and bought ugly clothes so you will be taken seriously?”
“Goodness no,” Kristina said. “I borrowed everything from my mom, including this… purse.”
She held the purse far from her body, like it had some disease that might spread.
“Well, you look really good,” I said, obviously not meaning it.
“Bree, I look good in a miniskirt, not a suit.” She said. “I just hope that Drew doesn’t see me in this.”
“Why?” I said jokingly. But we all knew the answer.
Drew was the boy who didn’t care what the girl was like on the inside. He cared about 2 things: 1, being whether the girl had money or not, and 2, if she had a good body. She could be the meanest girl in the world, or the sweetest girl in the world, but it didn’t matter to him. He just cared about those 2 things.
“Now come on,” she said, raising me up from the bed. “Go get dressed and come with me to my interview.”
“Do I have to wear something like that?”
Kristina glared at me so I went to my closet, quickly picked something out, and went to the bathroom.

“Hmph,” Kristina looked at me enviously. “Lucky you that gets to look pretty.”
“Look, no one’s stopping you from going ant changing into your own clothes.”
“But I don’t have anything that people would actually take me seriously in!”
“Borrow something of mine!”
“No,” she said sadly. “I need to do this myself.”
The second we walked out of the apartment that we shared, I started to drive her to Greene’s fashion design. But I saw something that caught my eye. I swerved into a parking space next to Dunkin’ Donuts’ and removed my seatbelt.
“Where are you going?” Kristina said.
“I’ll be right back. I promise.”
“Bree wait!” said Amanda. But I was already gone.
As I walked toward the shop, I saw that it was true. What I saw was true. It was my boyfriend, Jake, standing in front of the store, kissing another girl.
“Jake??!!” I said when I saw them. “What are you doing?”
Jake pushed the girl away from him and looked at me innocently. I looked at the girl’s outfit. http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=32683951
“This isn’t what it looks like!” he said. I felt tears burning in my eyes. Then one salty tear came down my cheek. I ignored it as it dropped into my mouth.
By now, Kristina was coming out of the car. “Bree, we have to go! My interview is in an hour and a half!”
She stopped when she saw me crying and immediately turned to Jake.
“What did you do?!” she said demandingly.
“She-she saw me kissing another girl.”
“Why is that a problem? We kiss all the time, you’re my BOYFRIEND!” the girl said.
“Boyfriend?” I said.”He’s my boyfriend! At least he was,” I said, glaring at him.
“You mean he was dating us both at the same time?”
“Payson, honey,” Jake said to the girl. “I’m sorry. You’re the one I want to be with.” He tried to pull her into a hug, but she pushed away.
“Hello?” I said to Jake. “I’m right HERE!!!”
“You’re right,” he said to me. “I was a jerk. And I’m sorry.”
“Apology not accepted!” I said. “You-you- you two timer!”
“Can I have a ride back with you guys?” Payson said. “He’s my only ride.”
“Sure,” said Kristina. “Hop in. But first I have an interview. You should be back home by three.”
“So,” I said the second we jumped into the car. “How long have you been dating Jake?”
“One year, 2 months,” said Payson. “On my birthday,” she said with a sad smile.
“You could do MUCH better,” said Kristina.
“Look who’s talking! I don’t even know why you’re dating Drew!” I exclaimed to Kristina.
“Bree! Watch the road!” yelled Payson from the back seat.
But it was too late.
