A deep sigh was released from a young girl as she gazed up at the night sky, allowing it to steal away her attention from her walk. Her eyes snapped from star to star, admiring the sparkling beauty of the once bright blue atmosphere that possessed puffs of white clouds here and there. Now, the clouds had long disappeared as darkness took over, bringing a new type of scenery overhead. The girl wished she could stop and take a moment to just stare peacefully, but she knew that her time was limited, lest she were to be greatly punished for being late.
Remembering her goal, she forced herself to look away from the sky and continued walking at a faster pace. She only had a few more blocks to go before she arrived. Her attention was once again stolen as her [h/c] hair blew into her face. Frantically trying to get the few strands out of her eyes, she barely noticed a sleek looking car racing away from her down the street, well over the speed limit. After pushing back her hair, she cocked her head to the side as she watched the car just disappear over the hill. Her lips tugged up in a small grin as she imagined just where that car was going.
The girl's [f/c] converse pounded quickly against the ground as she bolted forward, now in more of a rush than before. Her breathing grew louder as she gained more and more ground, growing much closer to her destination. Only one more block was left before she would be there, but she was no longer planning on staying long. She couldn't if she didn't want to miss the race. She began running through a yard covered in healthy looking grass, by far the greenest in the entire neighborhood, and flung open the front door to a one-story building.
"[Y/n], what's the rush? Oh, dear, you look as though you just ran a marathon!" the girl turned to her left, seeing her mother walking out of the kitchen of her home with a worried look on her face—as usual.
"I just remembered I still have to finish an essay for English—"
"I thought you finished all of your homework." [Y/n]'s mom narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
"Yeah, I thought so, too, but I just remembered, while I was coming home, that I forgot about my essay," [y/n] lied. If her mother knew the real reason she sprinted through the front door, she would place bars on her windows and board up her door. No way would [y/n]'s mom ever let her go to an illegal street race.
"Fine... You better get it done quick though, because lights are out in half an hour. Got it, missy?"
"Yes, mom!" [y/n] chirped, bounding down the hall to her room. She quickly entered, closing the door behind her, and went through her closet, looking for an appropriate outfit for a race at this time of night. She knew she didn't have too long before the race began so she did her best to hurry. As she slipped a leather jacket on over top of her [f/c] tank top, she heard a small voice from the doorway to her room, causing her to turn around to face the source.
"[Y/n]?" [y/n]'s younger brother's voice met her ears. She slowly made her way over and knelt down in front of him.
"Yes?"
"Can you help me sleep?" he asked in his adorable little voice. She found that she could never say no to him in almost any circumstance.
"Sure." He reached upwards so she could easily pick him up and take him across the hall and to his room. [Y/n] gently laid him down in his bed, tucking him in, as well.
"Can you please sing Puffy for me?" he asked. She immediately knew what he meant by that. When he was younger, she would always sing Puff the Magic Dragon to him every night to help him fall asleep.
"Of course." [Y/n] got up and turned off the lights, keeping the lamp beside her brother's bed on, and sat back down at the edge of his bed.
"Puff the magic dragon lived by the sea
