Dear Franchisee Man,
Hello. I am Tami and have been with Tutors R Us for six years.
The other day I received a live paycheck for $1550 dollars instead of the check for a little over $500 I was expecting to receive. I drove back so Janitor could fix the situation, not that I wouldn't have been thrilled to receive that amount. Over the course of thirteen years as an educator my average pay has varied from $25-$50 per hour.
Over the past years working for Tutors R Us, I have taught every age level and modality from four year-olds to twenty something year-olds in our beginning and at level to advanced reading programs, math basics up to Algebra and Geometry, study skills, writing, and helped students with homework. Before this summer (2015) I certified to teach the all our new programs involving robots, making video games, and inspirational math.
During my six year tenure as a Tutors R Us employee, Talent never gave pay raises until last year she raised my hourly rate .31 cents. Currently I receive $13.31 an hour.
I work at Tutors R Us because I love teaching and working with the students, seeing them grow as people who are better equipped to comprehend the subjects they need to be skilled in to do well in their academic careers.
If it is possible to get a decent raise it would be much appreciated.
Thank you for your time, and thank you for bringing in competent administration and many new students.
Sincerely,
Tami R.
(Response to Email One):
Good evening Tami,
I want to recap our conversation today to ensure we are on the same page moving forward. All communication regarding scheduling, compensation and student concerns should come through me or Janitor, not Franchisee Man. As the new honcho, I am responsible for all hiring, terminations, pay changes and ensuring the overall quality of the program. Should you have a concern about a student's program, you are expected to ask Janitor or myself in person. Although I am not a credentialed educator, there is no lack of knowledge or skill which is why I have been entrusted with this role. Janitor and I are open to suggestions and feedback as we believe in collaboration for the enrichment of our students.
We are genuinely appreciative of all your support and dedication to Tutors R Us and hope to continue to work together as we seek to offer academic support to students in the community. Our procedures include formal reviews resulting in appropriate wage adjustments. I cannot speak for previous ownership but please understand that I believe hardworking, dedicated individuals should be properly compensated. I have been in positions where the workload continually increased followed by my dedication yet my compensation did not reflect that. It is frustrating. You will be informed of the upcoming review process and we'll go from there.
Have a great night.
Best,
Ten Year Younger Never-Taught-a-Day in a Classroom Admin.

Dear Ten Year Younger Never-Taught-a-Day in a Classroom Admin.,
If you get a chance, look at this website http://www.hobartshakespeareans.org
This is Rafe Esquith, one of the most renowned teachers with awards and commendations from President George Bush, The Dali Lama, Queen of England...
His PBS documentary is http://www.pbs.org/pov/hobart/ and can be found on netflix. I show this film to my classes each September.
Rafe is one of the most inspirational teachers I have met.
This next site is where to read what is happening to this seminal educator.

This is the LAUSD witch hunt happening even to master teachers like Rafe. I know of no other teacher who has gone above and beyond likes this man. How this teacher is being treated is how the average teachers is treated, and he is amongst the best of the best.
I've worked for a small district, small private schools, and Tutors R Us, so I have always interfaced with the show runners. This set up is different and I will take note.
I've seen five admin come and go in the six years I have been with Tutors R Us, so there are frequent changes in how the admin would like us to adjust to their styles. I try my best to adjust and be respectful.
I appreciate all you do and the feedback.
I have never done my job for the money, but decent compensation is appreciated.
We'll work on a good review.
-Tami R.-
