"Life never goes the way you want it to go but it does have a funny way of showing you how things truly come out"
I opened my eyes and sat up looking at the sunlight shining through my window. I smiled to myself and pulled the covers from on top of me to the side and smelled the fresh air surrounding me.
"Its a new day, a new me" I whispered to myself.
My morning consisted of my usual hygienic routine. After all of that was successfully done I grabbed my purse, books, and phone. I headed out of my dorm and down to the hall. As I checked my phone for the time I realized that unlike many other times I had time to kill. I had exactly 45 minutes before my class started. Before thinking of anything I should do with the spare time I had, my stomach growled. I chuckled to myself and started making my way to a café across campus. They made every tasty treat from bakery to beverages and to think of it I hadn't gone there in a while. My stomach could use a very delicious breakfast from the cozy café across the campus. I'm sure my diet would appreciate a little treat.
Once I was across the street from the campus I made my way to the café. As I entered the little bell hanging from the top of the door rang making its "ding ding" sound. I went straight to the counter wasting no time as my stomach was going crazy as soon as I smelled all the wonderful aromas floating around. I looked at the menu and had come to the realization that picking something from here was merely impossible for me as everything looked so good.
After several minutes of pondering I finally made my decision. I smiled kindly at the cashier in front of me who looked like she was loosing patience with me. Lucky for me this place wasn't so busy so early.
"Can I have the chocolate lava mini cake and the iced vanilla coffee please" I said as I reached for the money in my purse.
"That will be 13.99 ma'am" said the cashier as she pressed some buttons on the monitor.
I gave her a $20 bill and got my change. "You're order will be finished in about 5 minutes" said the cashier as I went to go look for a good seat.
I decided on sitting by the brick wall where there was a high table for two. I pulled my phone from my pocket and checked my schedule for today. I didn't have much but three classes and then everything else was free time for me. How wonderful.
"Chocolate lava mini cake and iced vanilla coffee?" Asked the waitress who had a tray with my order.
"Yes, thank you" I smiled grateful.
"Enjoy" he said with a smile and walked away.
I grabbed the fork that was on the plate and took my first bite of the lava cake and it was like heaven. It was so amazing that I devoured and savored every bite like it was the last. It was like falling in love really. This cafe failed to surprise me. It had the best bakery in the world and don't get me started on their coffee. It was to die for.
Realizing I had gotten carried away with this delicious food heaven I checked the time. I had only 20 minutes to make it back to campus and be on time to my class. I hurriedly got my things and grabbed my coffee and raced for the door. Thats when my clumsy self dropped all of my books. I sighed and went down to pick them up, but before I could someone had already picked them up for me. To say I was astonished was an understatement.
"Um I uh um Thank you, Stephon" I stuttered as I couldn't find use of my vocabulary.
All this time he was here ? In the same café as me ? How could I have not known? Well maybe for the fact that I was starving but still how could I not have looked at my surroundings?
"You're welcome" was all he said after going back to his seat which was directly by the door.
Its as if he didn't give a care in the world when it came to being late to class. Considering we had class together in about 15 minutes. Wait why am I thinking about being late? I'm already late, why the hell did he help me?
'Maybe the fact he has manners Kat' the little voice in my head told me.
I shook my head and made my way towards his table. "Why did you help me? I mean not that I'm not thankful because I needed it but because you don't help anyone. That sounded so rude but --" I ranted until I was interrupted by his laugh.
I looked at him with a puzzled look. "Whats so funny ?" I asked.
He stood up and got his things while shaking his head. He moved me out of the way and threw his trash away. As he walked to the door he didn't even look back to say the three letter word. "You..."
I stood there dumbfounded for a few seconds before face palming myself and exiting the café as well.
At least one good thing came from this morning well maybe two. I had the best breakfast a girl could ask for and I finally got to see Stephon Santos laugh like I know he used to have. Maybe this is where I start getting a bit closer so I can uncover the truth. I have to I depend on it. It'll help me in the long run, hopefully.
As soon as I was footsteps away from my class I prepared for the embarrassment of my life. Not that I wasn't used to it already. Wouldn't be the first time I was late, but it would be the first time I was at least 10 minutes late. I turned the knob and made my way in.
"How nice of you to join us Kataleyah, now take a seat please you're interrupting my lesson. The lesson that you've missed half of by the way. Go sit down you have a lot of catching up to do." He strictly said.
I quickly made my way to my seat and sat down and got my pen and notebook out. Once I was settled in I realized one more incredible thing I had missed.
Stephon was already here. How was that even possible? He had walked out of the café moments before I walked out. Either he could fly or he walked really fast. He looked so concentrated on the words being spoken by Professor Mark that I got lost in taking every detail of him in.
"Ms. Cruz ! Can you tell me what I just said?" Yelled professor Mark.
I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at him while everyone looked at me. "Uh I'm sorry I wasn't paying attention." I apologized.
"If you're not taking my class seriously Ms. Cruz then please leave my classroom, if not then concentrate." He firmly said it as he turned around again to write down some notes.
I sighed and went back to jotting down my notes rapidly in sloppy handwriting. As I wrote my notes I took a few glances at the boy who had caused me much chaos today. He looked so unbothered by everything. He just carried on writing and writing as if his hand never got tired. He didn't care about anyone he just came to his classes and left.
To my pleasure that would soon change.
When class ended Stephon was the first one to leave and as always I was the last.
So much for a new day and a new me...
