SOTC: Rumor Has It by Adele
"Welcome back to another fantabulous year at Richmond high!" the announcements blared through the speakers. "A special message to our seniors, keep those trash cans void of freshman! Let them enjoy their first day. Any one of you that crosses that line will have a little chat with Mrs. Fiengo, our principal of two years now." Star narrowed her eyes. Seniors aren't the only bullies around, she noted to herself. "Also for you sophomores, welcome to your second year of high school! Hang in there. You aren't freshman anymore so you know the rules. Stick to them!"
Star let her head droop onto her desk. She couldn't get over the fact that the boy she had a crush on was blackmailing her. This boy she had a crush on that was blackmailing her had seen her underwear. Well he hadn't directly seen them, he had seen it from the camera's point of view, but that camera had taken a good picture. That was something to be embarrassed about. What was she to do?
"Ms. Romano am I going to have to send you to Mrs. Fiengo on the first day for falling asleep in class?" the teacher, Mr. Ross, asked.
Star's head immediately popped up. She had never been on a teacher's bad side before and she didn't want to know what it was like. "No sir!" she uttered and sat up as straight as she could.
Once the teacher's attention was gone, she began to slouch again. Just then, a note whizzed past her face and onto her desk. She looked around the room. Now where did this come from? She began to unfold the note.
"Ms. Romano, a little advice for you. If you're going to pass notes, don't make it that obvious."
The class started sniggering. She couldn't stop her face from turning bright red. Even the teacher was better at this stuff than her! How embarrassing!
"That wasn't my note sir!"
"Are you sure?"
She nodded confidently. No one passes notes to me. It has to be for someone else. Mr. Ross walked over to her desk.
"May I see it then?" Star immediately handed the crumbled piece of paper to him and squeezed her eyes shut. Please say it's not mine. Please say it's not mine! Mr. Ross read it and then chuckled. "You should've prayed harder. Hey Romano! How's it going? If I'm not mistaken, you are the only Romano in the room. Am I right?"
Star gulped. This could not be happening to her. She was a good girl! Ever since she met Daniel, her mostly perfect life had been flopped upside down. It's all his fault! she accused.
"I am."
"Ms. Romano you seem like a nice girl so I'm giving you this third chance. Don't blow it. If I were you I would take that advice."
"Yes sir."
The rest of the class period she sat down and paid attention to Mr. Ross just like a good girl would. When the bell rang and class was dismissed, Star gathered her things as fast as she could and fell in line with the throngs of students already trying to get to their next class. Before she could make it, however, she was tripped and her papers went flying.
Star faceplanted the floor. This wasn't the first time. She usually didn't make a big deal out of it and kept on moving after she picked up her things, but today whoever was at fault felt like talking.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry. Are you okay?!" He asked.
Star just nodded and began picking up her stuff, not bothering to look anywhere but the floor. "Hey, you're Star aren't you?"
Star's head perked up. "That would be me."
As soon as she saw the boy's face, she felt like everything was going to be okay. His blonde curls came in ringlets around his angelic face, making him look like an innocent little boy with his blue eyes and button nose. She almost thought she had run into Rick, but this boy's eyes were a pale blue and his blonde curls weren't as shiny.
