My breathing suddenly stops. Am I ready for death? Is this the Lords wish?
No one is ready for their demise, not truly anyway.
My eyes sting with tears but I hold them back, aware of Alexander's gaze upon me.I crouch down slowly and pick up the cold steel in my shaking hands.
"Are you ready?" Alex asks with a shaky breath.
I purse my lips together and nod my head for fear that if I spoke, it would be merely a squeak.
"Promise?" He whispers, a single tear streaming down his face.
"Promise" I heave.
Alex holds out the heart and I vice versa with the knife. He looks at the steel as if it were a demon derived from the pits of hell.
" Victoria I can't!" He exclaims, his face scrunching up.
I bite back my tears.
"You must!" I reply, lacing my voice with urgency.
The moon was beginning to sink. We didn't have much time left.
I kneel down and bend my head towards the pond, my hands holding the stone underneath my neck.
The wind stirs my hair and a voice soothes my senses.
I am ready. I've been ready for this moment for a long time but I didn't know it until now.
I feel the cold steel press against my neck. Alex sniffles.
"Wait!" I cry out.
Alex jerks the knife away.
I look at my reflection in the puddle. Dirt, sweat and dried tears stained my face.
"Your mother. I forgot to tell you, she asked me to relay a message to you" I cough out. I open my mouth to tell him but Alexanders quirky voice filled the peaceful air."I know" He pauses for a moment before continuing on. "She loved me with all her heart, I was her world and she regretted neglecting me, she's sorry and will never forgive her self"
I bite my lip and nod my head.
I feel the cold steel press against my neck and smile slightly to my self. I, the girl who loved life, who always tried to find the silver lining dies before she even discovered what the true meaning of life was.
"Do it"
"I'll see you soon" He whispers.
"Promise?" I ask, choking on the lump formed on my throat.
"Promise"
He draws the knife along my neck and I momentarily witness my warm blood turning the pond water a deep red.
