A Solangelo Story

Chapter 2

'"Nico," I hear Percy's voice, distraught and worried. I get worried myself, he and annabeth have been in new Rome for collage. "You have to come to new Rome now... It's Hazel." When I hear this I open the bathroom door and see nico literally turn five shades paler.'

Nico's POV

I open the door to see a very sweaty percy, "What are you doing here?" He was supposed to be in new Rome with Annabeth studying at the demigod university over there.
"Nico, you have to come to new Rome now... It's Hazel."
He face turns white, I feel like I can't move. I swallow and try to calm down, it can't be that bad right?
"Nico?" Percy snaps his fingers in my face and I shake out of my still state. "I'm good." I say lying, I'm scared out of my mind, what could have possibly happened to Hazel.
I call Will out of the bathroom not caring what percy will think, "What's going on?" Will asks but I don't give anyone a chance to answer.
I waste no time shadow traveling the three of us to the borders of new Rome.

Percy leads us to the hospital where hazel is being brought to. I see Reyna and she hugs me, "I'm so sorry nico."
"Just tell me what happened to Hazel." Just as I ask I hear a scream from down the hall. I can't see who it was because there were a lot of doctors and nurses surrounded the person on a gurney. I hope it's not Hazel but deep down I know it is.
My suspicion is confirmed when I see Frank and jason running behind the doctors and nurses.
"Hazel!" I yell and push nurses out of the way. I see Hazel with a half a broken spear deep in her shoulder. She whines in pain and try's to force a smile when she sees me but I can tell it hurt because it immediately went away.
I turn to Frank and jason angry, "How did this happen!" Hazel whines in pain again and I take her hand.
"She accidentally walked out into open fire during war games." Frank says with a solemn expression but I could care less, "Were you with her? Gods why wouldn't you be, you let her walk out and get hit!" I yell at Frank
"Nico it wasn't his fault, we all got separated by the other team." Jason try's to calm me down but it doesn't work. I decide to talk to them later because I feel Hazel squeeze my hand.
I kneel down next to her, "Hazel?"
"It hurts nico." Now that I'm closer I can see tears on her cheeks, and it kills me.
"Remember what I taught you?" I get startled a little from Will whispering in my ear. A few months ago Will was asking me all these questions about my powers because not many people know too much about hades kids. We experimented a little and found out I can take and give pain to and away from people, Will helped me learn how to control it.
"You're going to be fine, I promise." I say to Hazel softly. She closes eyes wincing in pain again. I squeeze her hand a little and absorb some of her pain into me which fades quickly.
She takes a few deep breaths and I can tell she's a little more comfortable now.
I look back at will, "We have to pull that thing out of her arm."
"No way." He says shocked that I even said that.
"Why not, can't you see how much pain she's in." I stand up but don't let go of hazels hand.
"Nico, I can tell just by looking at it that the spear is really deep. I'm surprised it didn't come out her back. It's piercing a lot of vain's and arteries. If you pull that out on the spot then the gash will be so big she could die within minutes from blood loss."
I bite my lip, "Well then how do we get it out."
Reyna comes back over from taking to one of the doctors, "They are prepping a room for her, she's going into surgery as soon as possible."
"Surgery?!"
"That's the only way the doctors can get the spear out without out her losing all that blood." Reyna says.
Hazel whines in pain again, obviously I didn't take as much pain away as I should have. "Nico I see dad." She says scared.
"No you don't, you see me. Focus on me." I say calmly for her sake. I brush some of her hair out of her face, "Just look in my eyes."
She looks at me but I could tell she wasn't really looking at me, more the space in between us. Which wasn't good.
"How fast can they get her in surgery?" I ask anyone who is willing to answer.
Will does, "It shouldn't take too long, it doesn't look like there are many patients in here."
A few minutes later doctors come and wheel her away to the operating room."
My sister, my Hazel has to get a spear taking out from her shoulder. All I can think about is why was no one else there to protect her.
