Wipe Out

Chapter 2:

I catch several waves but I can't stop watching Jaimin surf. He's amazing!! I guess those Cali surfers really live up to their legend, and he's really cute. 'Wait a minute. Keep it together Malina. He's just another cute surfer guy that you're friends with' I remind myself.

"Alright. I'm gonna be late for work." Tommy says as he paddles towards the shoreline.

"Tommy, can I come with you to work today. Maybe I can finally get a job there." I shout out to him as I paddle after him. Tommy works at my favorite surf shop, White Water Surf Shop. I've always wanted a job there but my friend's dad keep's telling me they have enough staff. Which is a load of crap because it's only Sky and his dad that work there as well as Tommy. My Dad used to work there, before he died.

"Alright," Tommy says as he picks his board up, tucks it under his arm and walks up towards the road. "But if you annoy in the slightest way, I will kick you out. Deal?" Tommy says holding out his right hand.

"Deal," I pick up my board and tuck it under my right arm whilst I shake Tommy's hand with my left hand. "Oh, can I bring Jaimin. Just to show him around. It's been five years since he's been here." I say to him as we walk back up to the road.

"How did you know that?! Mickey is my girlfriend and I didn't know that." Tommy says with a smile. Damn it, I'm letting Tommy grow on me.

"Are you coming Jaimin?" I shout out to him.

"Where are we going?" He says as he runs up the beach to me.

"I'm taking you to the surf shop where my brother Tommy works." I say to Jaimin.

We all walk back up to where Mom dropped us off but she must have had to go to work or something because her car isn't there.

"Looks like we're gonna have to walk." Tommy sighs.

"It's not that far Tommy." I say to him.

"I left my clothes in the car." Tommy sighs again.

"Maybe you could ring Jocelyn and ask her to drop them off?" Mickey says trying to reassure Tommy.

"I also left my phone in the car." Tommy turns and looks at Mickey.

We stood there for a couple of minutes trying to figure out what to do when suddenly Jaimin piped up.

"I've got my phone." He says as he pulls his phone out of his bag.

"Way to go little brother." Mickey says as she playfully punches Jaimin's shoulder.

"Thanks Jaimin." Tommy says as he takes the phone from Jaimin's hands and dials Mom's number.

"We should probably start walking." Mickey says as her and Jaimin start to walk down the road.

"We'll meet you at the store!" I call out to them.

"Mum's waiting for us at the shop. Where's Mickey and Jaimin?" Tommy asks when he gets off the phone.

"They started walking. Come on we had better be going or else you will be late." I say as we walk down the road together.

"Hey Malina, what would you think if I told you that I wanted to marry Mickey?" Tommy asks.

"I would say that it would be a wonderful idea. You two are so cute together." I reply. "When are you going to propose to her Tommy?" I ask.

"Well we are going night surfing tomorrow night for Mickey's birthday so maybe I could do it then." Tommy said as we walk.

"That would be so sweet, getting proposed to on your birthday. There's Mom." I say as we come around the corner and reach the store.

"There's your clothes now off you go." Mom says as she handed us a bag each. I run to the toilet block just across the road and get changed. I fix up my wet hair so that I look half decent. I walk back out and hand the bag to Mom.

"Hey where's Mickey and Jaimin?" I said as I saw their boards on the top of the car. "They're in the store." Mom said putting the bag in the car. "Okay. See ya Mom." I said kissing her on the cheek and walking into the store.

"There you are Malina. Where's Tommy?" Mickey says as she walks over to me.

"He's getting changed. Have you seen Sky?" I ask her.

"He's over there unpacking new stock." Mickey says, pointing over to the clothes rack. I walk over to him and stand there.

"Need a hand." I ask him. Sky turns around and sees me.

"Do you ever go away?" Sky rolls his eyes.

"Sky I need this job! We are low on money and we can't live on Tommy's pay. I'm begging you Sky, after everything we have done together the least you could do is give me this job." I plead.

"There's another box out back." Sky says as he went back to unpacking the box. I just smile and run out the back. I grab the box and turn around to unpack it when I run into Tommy.

"What are you doing out here?! What are you doing with that box?!" Tommy asks, confused.

"Sky gave me the job! Isn't that great!" I say as I walk past him. I walk back out to Sky and unpack the box.

"Are you sure you can fit the job in with your busy schedule?" Sky asks me.

"If Dad could work here as well as looking after us and teach us to surf then yes I think I can." I say as I hung the clothes up. Dad used to work here, before he was killed. That's one of the reason's I love this store.

"Hey Malina. Have you seen Mikayla?" Jaimin asks me.

"Why do you call her Mikayla? Everybody else calls her Mickey." I ask him again as I move the empty box aside.

"I don't know. Anyway have you seen her or not?" Jaimin says sounding a little agitated.

"No, I haven't. She was here a minute ago and so if she's not here then I have no idea." I say as I pick up the empty box to take it out the back.

"Jaimin!" I hear Sky call out.

"Sky, how are you?" I open the door slightly and see them talking to them each.

"Sky is it okay if I go now? We getting ready for Mickey's birthday." I say as I come out from the back.

"Yeah I guess." Sky says to me. I walk out of the shop and start to walk back home. I walk past the photo center and realize that I needed to pick up a canvas I ordered for Mickey. I walk in and am greeted by Casey, one of Tommy's friends.

"Hey Case, is the canvas ready for Mickey?" I ask.

"Sure is. Wait here." Case says as he goes out the back. Several minutes he comes back with a canvas. "Here ya go Mal." Case said as he hands me the canvas.

"You're a bloody legend Case. Thanks. Oh by the way are you coming night surfing tomorrow?" I ask him.

"I guess so. Thanks for the reminder Mal." Case says and with that I leave the store and walk home.
