I stared stared up at the two story house in front of me. Something about this house gave me a bad feeling. Something dark happened in this house. A cold breeze blew past, causing me to shiver. I pulled my jacket tighter around me and tucked pieces of my long brown hair behind my ears. Suddenly, a hand landed on my shoulder. I jumped and bit my lip to hold back a scream.A familiar laugh filled the air. I growled and pulled my shoulder out of the mans grip. "Did I scare you Alice?" My father asked.
"No." I replied continuing to stare at this house. "You just startled me is all." My father sighed and shook his head. He walked past me and unlocked the door to our new house. I looked at my feet then contemplated heading in. I knew my father is trying. He bought this house about a month after mother died. He wanted to get away from the memories in the old house. Away from the memories in that town. I don't really blame him. Losing mom almost broke both of us. He's still hurting so much. I sighed. The least i can do is at least act like i liked the new house.
I walked back to the car and graded some box's and headed into the house. When i walked in the building, a sick feeling washed over me and I held still, fighting the urge to double over and throw up what i had in my system. I closed my eyes as the room began to swim. 'Its just a house.' I thought. 'Just a house.' Slowly i opened my eyes. The spinning had stopped and the sick feeling had subsided. I sighed and sat down the boxes.
I looked around the house. It actually was really nice. The door opened up into, what appeared to be the living room. To the far right, there was a stair way and to the left there was an open door. I walked towards the door and poked my head in. The floors were wooden and the walls were a coffee brown color. There was an open door way which led into another room. I assumed it was the dinning room and the kitchen. I walked out and headed back towards the stars. "Dad?" I called up the stairs.
"I'm up here, come on up, you'll love the view." He called back. I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. I slowly came up the stairs and as I reached the top, I looked around. It appeared to be a long hall. The right wall had three doors and the left wall had two. I slowly walked towards the right wall. I opened the doors. The first one was what appeared to be a bedroom. The middle one was a bathroom, and the last one seemed to be another bedroom. I walked across the hall and checked the last door first, it was an other bathroom and the first door was a master bedroom. Dad stood staring out the window smiling. "Come here."
I obliged and walked up next to him. He was staring out the window at a forest. "Beautiful." He mumbled. I nodded in agreement. He turned to face me. "Come on, lets get the car unloaded before it gets dark. I nodded but continued to stare into the forest. Something wasnt right. My dad sighed. "Please Alice, dont start."
"I was just admiring the view dad." I replied. I forced a smile on my face and headed out the door. How was i suppose to tell my dad I felt like we were being watched?
--time skip--
By the time we got the car and our u-haul unloaded, the sun had set. Dad had been setting up the beds while i unpacked and set things up down stairs. I glanced over at the clock. It was almost midnight. I sighed and got up. Out of habit, I walked towards the front door to make sure it was locked. Then I headed up stairs. I opened the master bedroom, which dad had claimed as his, to find only his bed. I shut the door and headed to the last door on the right, also known as my bedroom. I'd pick that room, because the bad feeling I got from the house wasn't as strong in that room.
I opened the door and found dad pushing the mattress up onto the bed. "Hey Dad, its late. You should head to bed. We can finish setting up furniture tomorrow."
"You're right." Dad groaned and stretched as he stood. "Night princess." Dad said as he passed. He didn't bother to try and kiss my head or hug me like he use to. He knew that I'd just reject him. I slid past him and shut and locked the door after he'd left. I locked my window as well. This house wasn't safe. I pulled out a pillow and a blanket from the box marked Alice's bedding. I lied down and started out the window. What happened here? I thought as i drifted off to sleep.
