This was it. He was going to do It. Joey McIntyre was finally going to build up the courage, the guts, the dignity, to finally ask out his long time crush who also happened to be his best friend since the first grade. He had invited her to go roller skating with him at the roller rink so he could finally tell her how he felt. They were standing in line for their skates and Joe was standing there, thinking about how he was going to tell Sydney how he felt. He figured he would be smooth yet confident. Then he thought of it! He took a deep breath and turned to his best friend. But was soon interrupted before he could speak up.
"What size are you looking for?" The man behind the counter asked, snapping joe out of his thoughts.
"10." Joe replied as he was handed his skates seconds later. They then made their way to a bench where they tied their skates then rolled to the rink. In the corner of his eye, joe noticed a D.J. Taking song requests. He turned to Sydney and smiled.
"So, what's your favorite song?" He asked with a sweet smile.
"I don't know I kinda like Bon Jovi. living on a prayer's a pretty rad song." She replied with a smile back.
"Cool, me too." Joe replied in a shy tone. He knew his next move would be to play that song, just for her, it would totally win her over!
"Hey, I gotta use the ladies room, I'll be right back." Sydney said as she made her way to the bathroom. Now was Joe's chance to request the song and win Sydney over!
"Hey man, you wouldn't mind playing living on a prayer would you?" Joe asked. The D.J. smiled and nodded.
"Not at all man, who's this goin' out to?" He asked.
"My best friend, Sydney, I'm trying to win her over, if you catch my drift." Joey raised his eyebrows and playfully nudged the D.J. with an elbow.
"Ah, gotcha! I'll get that up for you two." He smiled. Joe then made his way over to Sydney who was just leaving the bathroom and making her way over to him.
"Hey, what'd I miss?" She asked as joe grabbed her hand, carefully, making sure she wouldn't fall.
     "Oh, nothing." Joe smiled.
"Uh... Hey man, there's a slight problem with the stereo, I can't play your request... sorry bro." The D.J. Announced as he walked over to Joe and Sydney.
"Huh?" Sydney asked with a confused expression. Joe sighed and shook his head.
     "Nevermind..." He replied.
"Uh... Ok." Sydney replied, full of confusion and obviously unaware of what had been going on. The DJ sighed, and walked away muttering under his breath.
"Let's grab something to eat..." Joe said, clearly disappointed as he made his way to a table and removed his skates.
"Actually no. We're not going any further with this until you tell me what's really happening." Joey's face fell blank. He sighed.
"Fine..." He paused for a second. "The truth is. I've been your best friend for as long as I can remember. I think we've gotten along pretty well for the several years I've known you... What I'm trying to say is... I like you." Joe finally admit with a sigh. Sydney was silent for a second. She looked Joe square in the eyes and slowly grew a smile. She embraced him in a tight hug.
"Out of all the people, I never thought you'd be the one." Sydney said as she snuggled close to Joey. He smiled just when she said those words and put an arm around her shoulders as they sat on the bench together without a word.
