Romeo Dreams | Chapter 2 | Kasamatsu

"Senpai, it's time to wake up." Words so sweet, so delicate-sounding.

I slowly open my eyes, the sun shining through my window. My golden maiden is sitting at my bedside, her hand reaching to stroke my cheek. Her face, just like in my dreams, is shining as bright as the sun. "Am I dreaming?"

A bright smile spreads across her face as she moves her face closer. "No, Senpai. I am not a dream."

Her delicate lips are almost on mine, and her breath mingles with mine. Just as our lips are about to meet I notice a glare from her ear, finding that silver earring that my teammate always wore. And, just as luck would have it, her hair is cut short. The sun's glare fades, and her beautiful dream-like image is replaced with Kise's face.

Instantly, I snap out of my dream-like state, shoving my hands into his chest, pushing him away from me. "Kise! What the hell are you doing?!"

He smiles apologetically, scratching the back of his head. "You looked so peaceful I couldn't resist..." He lets out a sigh as he hugs his chest in a painful way. "You really need to be more delicate, Senpai."

"Shut up!" I cross my arms over my chest, turning my head to the side. "It's your fault for trying to defile me like that!"

Kise chuckles. "Defile you? It was just a kiss, not like we both haven't had one before..."

I open my eyes wide in realization. Crap! Kise was just about to steal my first real kiss! It's a good thing I stopped him, then. "I don't have time for this!"

I stand up from the bed, walking over to my closet to pick up my uniform. "Don't tell me you've never kissed anyone, Senpai?"

"Shut up!" My uniform slides right on, just like it always does. I tighten my tie as I toss Kise's uniform to him. He really shouldn't leave such important things strung out on the floor like that! "Of course I have!"

Kise only grins, standing up beside me as he changes. "Oh, really? Then what was her name?"

"Well..."

"Or his name. I don't judge."

"You bastard!" I punch his gut, heading for the door. "You know who it was!"

"I don't!" He argues, pouting as he follows behind me. "You never told me!"

As an upperclassman I can't help but turn around as I see his uniform a jumbled, wrinkly mess. I reach over and flatten it all out, making sure it fits him properly. Lastly I tighten his tie, turning around.

My face is set in a scowl. How can I tell him such an embarrassing thing? "You were there!"

He blinks. "When?"

Does this douchebag really not remember that? How could he not?! "The first day you joined the basketball team."

Still, even as I look over my shoulder, his face is blank. "So many people were there! Just tell me who it was, and-"

"Kise Ryouta!" I yell in response, my heart tightening. "It was Kise Ryouta!"

I couldn't stop myself from storming out the door, slinging my school bag over my shoulder. Why was I so angry? It's not like it was a big deal, or anything. After all, it was an accident, though it was traumatic for me. It was probably nothing special for someone as popular as him, which is why he didn't remember it.

It was on that day months ago that Kise Ryouta, the copycat from the Generation of Miracles, transferred to Kaijo High School. Instantly, as soon as he stepped on the school grounds, he sought out the basketball club. And, being the new captain, I stood at the booth with the flyers.

I remember him, so energetic and so bright so early in the morning. He didn't seem to have a care in the world but his love for basketball, and so he instantly signed up before I could even instruct him to do so. I was in shock. No one had ever been that forward in signing up before.

"What's your name?" He asked me, his golden eyes piercing into mine.

It almost seemed as if he was looking into my soul. I balanced the flyers in my left hand and outstretched my right hand toward him. "Kasamatsu, Yukio Kasamatsu."

He smiled, taking my hand firmly in his. "Well, Kasamatsu-senpai, I look forward to playing with you."

I didn't see him again until our first practice that evening. He looked so out of place in a practice jersey, but it wasn't as if we could get him an official school jersey on his first day. We had the first years introduce themselves before we began a small scrimmage game to test their skills.

Of course Kise, coming from the Generation of Miracles, showed up all the rest, copying all of our favorite moves so easily. It didn't surprise me, though it did hurt my pride to see all of my second years destroyed by the fresh blood.

Not being able to stand it I, as captain, stepped forward to challenge him. "Kise Ryouta, how about we go one-on-one?"

He grinned in response, spinning the basketball on his finger. "I'd be honored, Senpai."

I held my ground that day, though he beat me without too much effort. At the very end of our game I went to shoot a basket and I felt my feet slide out from behind me. I lost my balance, and I was about to collide with the ground when Kise pulled my hand up toward him, saving me from an embarrassing fall.

"Thank you."

But, I probably should have held off on that thank you, for behind Kise was one of our fresh bloods, patting him on the back. One of them hit him so hard that he brought his head forward, colliding his lips with mine. It was a simple accident, but it fueled me with rage. I ended up hitting him, cursing his name, and storming out of the court.

And that was the first day my dignity and kiss was stolen by Kise Ryouta.

"Senpai, wait up!"

And he even has the guts to run after me now? "Shut up! Stay away from me!"

"It's not like I could have helped that, you know!" He pleads as he catches up, holding his hands in an apologetic gesture. "It was an accident!"

So he remembered? "I know that!" I screamed at him. "Which is why I didn't consider it my first!"

"You can't just pick and choose your first kiss, Senpai..." He looks at me with a confused expression. "It just happens."

"I can choose it if I want to, and that wasn't it!" I yell back, clutching tightly onto my school bag.

We don't talk for a few minutes on the way to school, but when I do look over at him he is grinning, his eyes shimmering gold. What was that determined expression? "Well, then, I suppose I'll have to try harder next time."

And, for the first time, he walks into the school ahead of me instead of at my side. What did he mean by that?
