With worry about your saftey and that of your family being face with war with the sirens, how will you deal with the constant threat of theives, pirates, and vikings?
(Okay, I thouht about the summary.)

STORY

You laughed as your mother splashed the seawater in your face. You retaliated using your (f/c) tail to send a wave in her direction, making her squeal with joy. Some of the guards laughed heartily from where they drifted a small distance away. You brushed your (h/s), (h/c) hair away from your face and fixed your coral crown. It had been a long time since you had been to the cove, and much longer since your mother or father had joined you. Both of them had been busy trying to keep the sirens from attacking the villages to the North, declaring war on the merfolk of the kingdom. As king, your father was obliged to stay in the castle in times of war, so he could not join you and your mother on the trip to the surface.

The last time you had come to the cove was five years ago in the middle of summer. With some guards you had played a game of hide-and-seek. You were an expert hider, and your small size gave you an advantage over the Changing-sized men. With their large tails they were very fast, but clumsy when it came to small spaces. You had been hiding for a while until the yelling from the guards changed into desperate shouts and the loud bang of a canon split into your hearing. At the time no one knew that pirates stopped in the cove during the raiding seasons, and the kingdom had paid the price by loosing three of the guards to those dastardly pirates. As far as you knew, they had been sold to a German collector who sold merfolk to the sirens as slaves. You didn't see the clear light of the sun until today as an early Changing present.

Your lungs began to feel dry from breathing the heavy air for so long. You dunked your head under the water and swam around, enjoying the salty feel of the sweet water traveling through your waterway. You looked around the floor of the cove, watching as small grey fish dived in and out of the shadows and under the shiny brown rocks.

A movement in the corner of your eyes caught your attention. A large, dark shadow covered the entrance to the cove, casting a shadow like when a whale swam above your head. You looked up and saw the looming shape of the bottom of a ship entering the cove. Your heart quickened as you swam as fast as you could to the surface where your mother and the guards swam oblivious to the quickly approaching ship. "Mother, there's a ship coming!" You cried out. They looked behind you and saw the wooden figure near.

You mother grabbed your forearm. "We need to leave, that's a pirate's ship!" You stared in shock at your mother then to the ship. Now that you could see something other then the keel, the ship looked horrifying. The wood was stained a dark brown, almost black color. Gray sails threatened to hide the sun, while a black skull flag fluttered against the wind. Long, black canons broke through the rails and the sides of the ship, glinting dangerously in the noon's light. Painted on the box in gold were the words Jolly Rodger.

The guards surrounded you and your mother as she pulled you against the tide towards the pirate ship. The deep, husky voices of the pirates shouted above you as you swam past the boat, the only way out of the cove. You heard the screeching of metal as you tried to keep up with your mother. You had not gone through the Changing yet, so your tail was not as long or powerful as the others'.

Suddenly, a loud bang cracked over your head and you were thrown away from your mother's grasp. Another bang exploded, and another wave threw you further away. You realized that they were shooting canon balls down to spread you out. And the terrifying thing was that it was working. Canon balls speared through the water around you, scattering the guards that reached for your hands. A canon ball whizzed in front of your face, forcing you to halt. The others were dodging the metal balls in attempt to come to your aid, but there were too many blocking them from you.
