This is the day. The Reaping. A day where all districts go to their town square and see who the capitol picks to go into the Hunger Games. I'm from District 2 and I'm 17 years old.

I walk up to a stand where a peacekeeper woman takes blood from my finger and dabs it on a sheet of paper. When she finishes I am led into the roped off area for ages 16 to 18. Once everyone gets organized, a lady walks onto the stage.

She has white powder all over her face with yellow-green sparkly lipstick. She has green-sparkle eyeshadow on and long, glittery fake eyelashes. On top of all that, she has a big clown-like wig on that's aqua-blue with stars all over it. I think her name's Cordillia.

She reaches the microphone and suddenly a loud, high-pitched voice booms throghout the square. "I'm glad everyone could make it to see one girl and boy to represent district 2 in the 74th annual Hunger Games!" blah, blah, blah whatever. Get on with it already, I think to myself while she makes a big speech that nobody really cares about.

I guess I must have tuned out for awhile because she finished her speech and she finally announces "Ladies first as always" with a stupid capitol accent.

She waves her hand around in a bowl that labels "ladies" and finally picks one and pulls it out. She cleared her voice and began to read the strip of paper. "Clove Avery". I stand there, shocked. this is the girl that I had a massive crush on. Now she's going into the Hunger Games. I watch in despair as she walks up to the stage, for I may never even see her again.

It's not that I don't have confidence in her. It's just that I want her to be safe.

Cordillia walks over to the microphone and announces "now the gentlemen." She sticks her hand in and pulls a name out. "Cato Hadley" she booms.

Me. That's me. I'm going in The Hunger Games.

I make my way up to the stage where Cordillia  and Clove are standing. Cordillia sticks out her hand to help me up, but I just ignore it. "Let's give a big round of applause for Clove Avery and Cato Hadley!" The audience does exactly what Cordillia says.

Seeing people clapping and cheering for us, I start to think that since I'm a career this might not be so bad. Then I remember Clove. I have to go in the games with her. Will she die? Or will she win? I don't know, and even if I team up with her, It could come down to the two of us. What will I do then?
