Chapter 2: Put me in the Hall Of Fame for chasing a bus

The sun slowly came up as I sat all alone at the bus stop. A few people passed by from time to time but I don’t socialize that much so I just let them be.

I didn’t know when the school bus will come by so I just continued on listening to some music. The song this time was Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe. That reminds me, I haven’t yet checked my phone since this morning.

3 unread messages welcomed me, one from Ken and two from Emma. This better be good.

*Emma*

Hey Anne! Morning! Don’t forget to bring the book I’ve been dying to borrow from you. Looking For Alaska. Haha. I’m just reminding to be sure.

I quickly got my bag and opened it to see if I brought the book. Feeling something hard and book-like, I felt relieved that I wasn’t able to forget about it. It was a good thing Emma texted me last night about it and I immediately placed the book inside my bag.

*Emma*

Hi again Anne. Heard about the whole possibility of being responsible for a newbie thing going on. Try not to be late. I know you don’t want to babysit a newborn. Just get to school already? Ok? See you later.

*Ken*

Morning Anne, since prom will be in a few months, would you like to be part of the preparation committee? I know your thing with the music and stuff and we could really use someone like you. Text me if you want to join.

I thought about joining the preparation committee but like I said, I don’t like socializing. But I couldn’t say no to Ken. So I texted back to him and Emma.

To: Emma

Hi Em. I got your messages. Yeah I brought the book with me. I’ll give to you at school once I get there. I am against this babysitting thing on a newbie. I’m here at the bus stop right now and by the looks of it I still have an hour before school starts so I guess I’ll be fine.

To: Ken

Morning Ken! Of course I’d love to be part of the preparation committee. Let’s talk about it at school. I’m waiting for the school bus to arrive. I’m trying to be punctual today. If you’re asking why, go get the info from your sister. See ya later.

After texting the both of them my Ipod suddenly shuffled to another song, A Little More You by Before You Exit. Once the song started, my head bobbled from side to side, up and down. The song is just so addictive and I can’t stop dancing to it but since I’m in public, now’s not the right time to shake my butt in front of strangers.

*30 minutes later*

Imagine King Kong getting really pissed when the planes started firing their guns at him. Well, I’m a hundred times more pissed that that ape. I’ve been sitting at the bus stop for almost an hour.

The school was only a twenty minute drive from my neighborhood; I should’ve walked earlier than sit around waiting for a bus that would not even arrive.

The pissed-o-meter in my head reached its boiling point and I’ve made up my mind to just walk to school.

I began to stand up and pick up my bag when I heard a horn being honked. I turned around to finally see the school bus coming my way. Scratch out everything I said earlier. I guess I’m riding the bus to school.

But as the bus came closer to the stop, it didn’t slow down and it kept on speeding up. I couldn’t believe that the bus was trying to avoid the stop. C’mon man! There’s a human being herE who had been sitting her but off for an hour just to wait for you to pick her up.

Scratch again everything I said about riding the bus again. It just drove right past me. Time was running out and I am not going to babysit a newbie. So I did what any idiotic teenager would do if the school bus missed them…

I ran after it.

Thankfully I was a fast runner thanks to my dad who made me join the track team when I was a kid. Before, I disagreed about him but unfortunately, I lost to him and I spent 2 years training. Never had I thought that it would come in handy one day.

I was able to catch up with it and started banging the windows at the back. Some kids saw me and started laughing. One even took a picture of me chasing the bus. I bet I looked horrible in that picture he just took.

"You are not going to give up until this bus stops!" I said to myself over and over again. Banging the window at the back was still no use so I shouted my lungs out. I hope the driver heard me.

*******

After banging and shouting behind the bus, I’ve finally made a decision that was actually smart. I stopped running after it and sat down on the sidewalk. I could barely breathe after all that running and my heart began to boom like a bass. Tired was not the word to describe me right now.

Checking my watch, it was already 7:40. My eyes grew wider at the amount of time that was left. I quickly stood up, grabbed my bag, and walked to school. Thanks to all that running after that freakin’ bus, School would be ten minutes away from where I was now. I guess the odds weren’t actually on my favor this time.

Putting my earphones on, The Script welcomed me with their song Hall of Fame. It felt like a victory lap after chasing the bus. I quickly paced up my walking as I hurried towards school. In every situation I was in, my IPod knew what to play next. Weird huh? Maybe it’s part of life, I think.
