Once, long ago, when the kingdoms still stood united under fragile peace, there ruled a man of unmatched beauty and unmatched cruelty.
His name, King Grimveil of Tartaria—last of the cursed lands.
He had the face of a god and the soul of a beast. His court glittered with jewels and poison. His hands held the fate of thousands, yet he used them only to take more. The throne beneath him was forged from the bones of those who displeased him. And his bed? Filled nightly with women who whispered his name in terror or in hunger—it made no difference to him.
The King drank too deeply, laughed too loudly, and sinned too freely. He celebrated lust and greed as virtues. He ravaged the coffers of kings and the hearts of daughters. And still, the world bent to him.
Until the night an old woman came to his gate.
Cloaked in grey and hunched with age, she asked only for shelter from the storm. Just one night beneath his roof. A moment of mercy from his hand.
In return, she offered him a her heart and kindness carved from stone, and a single word of prophecy.
But mercy was not among Balthazar's pleasures.
He laughed. Called her a hag. Spat on her and demanded she be thrown into the cold.
Before his guards could move, her skin split like silk, revealing not a frail elder but a being of ancient power—one born of the first gods. Her voice thundered as her hand reached through his chest and wrapped around the one thing he never believed could be taken.
His heart.
She didn't kill him. She cursed him.
She tore his heart from his body and sealed it in a crystal chamber of runes and iron, where it still beats, slower now with every passing year. As long as the heart survives, so does he. But its pulse has grown faint... and soon, it will stop.
And with it, so will the king.
To break the curse, she declared, he must do what he never could:
Fall in love. And be loved in return. And be loyal to one woman only.
Not by any woman, but by one born under the light of shared bloodlines. The last of her kind.
Only she can restore what was broken but only if she will love you back.
But as centuries passed, the cursed lands turned to shadow. Tartaria fell. The King vanished into legend. And the heart—his heart—still beats alone in the highest tower, each thump weaker than the last.
They say the forest grew around his castle like thorns.
They say the skies there no longer know the sun.
They say the King became a monster...
...and waits, not for redemption—
But for her.
