Chapter 6
Diving
~Chroma~
Preparations were all done, and now I was going to jump into a mirror. It's so fun to spend my Saturday morning doing very dangerous and stupid things.
"So I just hold this chain?" Pyro asks with a stupid look on his face.
"Yes. Hold that. If I tug on it three times, pull me back out of the mirror portal. Not one tug, not two tugs. You pull me out if you get three tugs on the chain in a row." I was trying to make this as simple as possible for him.
"Yeah, but the chain doesn't seem very long at all." He was trying to figure out how such a short chain would even help with exploration.
"It's like my Crystal. The chain will elongate as I will it to and shorten as I will it to. You don't need to worry about how it works."
"Okay. I guess that makes sense. So three tugs?"
"Yes. Three tugs." I sigh. I know he isn't a moron, but he's very slow on the the up taking.
"Got it."
"Good. Now be quick with pulling me out. The only reason I would be tugging on the chain is if I'm in danger and need help getting back to the portal."
"Right. Be quick." He wraps the chain around his right wrist, determined to have a good grip on it. "Be careful, okay?"
"Sure. Whatever." I fake a smile and jump over the sink to dive into the mirror. There is a moment of being frozen in time in between dimensions before I come out through the silvery mirror on the other side. Tumbling out of the mirror into the old, broken down house, the floor creaks, threatening to collapse underneath me. It was very bright, but this wasn't the light of the sun. The light was of burning. The sky was dark with smog the only light was the constant burning of the the surroundings. The building itself was not on fire, however, many of the things nearby were alight.
Picking myself up from the burnt wooden planks of the second floor of the rundown home, I took in the shape of the house. There was a giant hole through the floor in the hallway outside the bathroom that led all the way down to the basement. At the bottom was a light of something very bright like a miniature star.
The house was eerie enough as it is, so the last thing I want is for my nerves to act up. With each step I took, the floor screeched at me in pain. The walls moaned at me, threatening to lose their support. I went the opposite way of the giant hole in the floor as if I had a choice. I came up to a rotting door on my left with a worried mind. The walls along the door were cracked and decayed. I could hear scurrying around the house with enhance ears. Each little paw scraped against the wooden floors with pain.
With a deep breath, I clutched the rusted metal knob and opened up the door. With a jolt, I jumped at the sight of dozens of rats running out of the room at me. Each had mangled fur and red eyes that glinted like fire. About ten ran out the doorway that I was standing in, some trampling my feet in a hurry to get away. Others ran to various crevices and hiding spots in the room. I relaxed a bit after the rats finished their panic, however, I couldn't get rid of my trepidation. I couldn't detect anymore presences but the rats due to their quantity blocking out all other noises.
Staying aware, I take a questioned step into the room only to hear a sickening crunch underfoot. A rat. A dead rat. I stepped on a dead rat. I quickly removed my foot from the creature and examined the animal corpse. It had died somewhat recently due to what it looks like being melted to the innards with caustic acid. What really happened to it was a mystery, however this sight confirmed a feeling of fear within. The rats ran away due to something else scaring them. I wasn't the only big creature here.
