"Was That Awkward?"

I pull the ends of my sleeves over my hands and and wished badly I could pull my knees up to my chest but I wouldn't want an 18 year old boy seeing me like that. What if he's cute? Omg, what's wrong with me....

The metal on the bench next where Elle and I met last time, was cold.

I sat for a few minutes when I spotted the little girl with curly blonde hair running towards me.

"Mom, this is her!" She said.

I stood up and smiled. "Hey girly!" I said.

She ran up and have me a hug. "This is my mom and dad and brother." She grabbed my right hand in her left one. "His name is Joshua." I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. An old habit. He was standing there awkwardly."Hi." I said.

"Hi."

"I'm Zoe."

"I like that name."

I blushed slightly. "Thanks."

"Would you like a cinnamon roll? We come here every Saturday to get one. We would be happy to get you one." Their mom asked.

"Oh well-" 'Yes!' My mind told me. 'No you shouldn't make them pay their money.' "Oh, no. I don't want you to have to-"

"Please." She interrupted. "I would be happy to"

"Okay." I said and smiled.

"Yay!" Elle said. "You will like them a whole lot. They're really good."

"I'm sure they are."

We all say and talked outside. Every now and then I would catch Joshua staring at me which made me feel slightly uncomfortable, but it was kind of cute too.  He would look at me and when I noticed he would look away quickly. Eventually, they told me it was time to leave.

"Would you like to come home with us for dinner?" The mom asked.

I checked my phone. I still have almost an two hours before I have to get back to the children's home.

"Sure."

We got in the car and Joshua and I were sitting in the middle.

I felt uncomfortable but at the same time I had to control myself to not laugh because their parent were singing, practically yelling the song Animals by Maroon 5.

"We have a weird family." Joshua said.

"I can tell. But weird is cool."

We sat down at dinner and while they were eating they were talking about a girl named Amelia Pond, apparently, she had gone to Joshua's school, and went missing two days ago.

"And no one has any information on what might have happened?" I asked.

"Well the last time she was seen was at the hospital visiting her friend who had Ben in a car accident. His sister was driving. The three of then are no where to be found." Their dad said.

"That-" I almost said 'That sucks' but their parents seem really strict. "That's horrible."

"We agree."

After dinner Joshua and I were walking around the front yard.

"I think my parents like you a lot." He said.

"Cool." I said. I don't know what else to say to that.

I kept on walking not realizing that Joshua stopped.

I turned around. "What are you doing?" I asked.

"You know you're beautiful right?" He asked.

My cheeks turned pink. I was speechless. "Thank you." I said.

"You're welcome." He said and smiled.

We were standing in the light of a lamp post.

He tucked a stand of hair behind my ear.

I wished that we weren't standing in the ligh because my cheeks were probably as red as cherries.

My eyes shifter away, not wanting to look him in the eyes.

He laughed. "sorry was that awkward?"

"Kind of." There was an awkward silence. I intertwined our fingers and kept walking.
