- Kenji's POV -I couldn't have asked for a better horse show experience. I didn't win of course I didn't even have any expectations of going into the ring and coming out with any ribbons so hearing Shaymin and I's name being called for getting third place at first I though it was a mistake but when I was awarded with a lovely rosette I was extremely happy for both me and Shaymin.
My mom told me she was very proud of me and so was Matt after he gave me a kiss. I couldn't help but notice though he was acting a little different like something was bothering him but I just took it as he was tired from running around all day helping my mom get everything ready for me and Shaymin, it was a pretty tiring day but at the end of it all I was happy no matter where me and Shaymin placed.
After packing up all of our stuff, getting Shaymin ready for trailering back home in his blanket and shipping boots, we finally left the show grounds to go back home.
When we got home, my mom told me to run into the house to get Samara and ask her to help us unload all the tack from the horse trailer. When I opened the door to the house the sudden sounds of people yelling "Surprise" startled me.
I looked around and saw all our closest family and friends Including my best friend Kira. I couldn't help but have a big smile on my face.
"Whats all this for?" I asked giving Kira a huge hug.
"Its to celebrate your win at the show today." I heard my moms voice say behind me. "While you and Matt were packing up I gave Samara a call to set up a little party for you."
I turned to look at her "But I didn't win, I only got a third." I said still grinning ear to ear.
"To me its a win. You did so well at your first show hun and Im so proud of you." She said and also gave me a big hug.
"And you set all this up for me?" I asked.
"With help from Samara and Kira of course." I gave the three of them a big group hug.
"Enough with all this hugging lets party!" My Cousin Gavin said grabbing my arm and pulling me into the living room.
Everyone was having a great time, dancing and listening to music, mingling and catching up with family and old friends, snacking on the food my sister had catered for us and just having loads of fun.
It wasn't till I realized when after I thanked everyone for being here that Mathew was still outside. He was putting away the tack and putting Shaymin back in his stall, I got so caught up in the surprise from the party I left him to do all the work by himself.
I quickly grabbed a pair of shoes shoving them onto my feet and went out to the barn and see if he needed anymore help before we came back to the house and enjoyed the rest of the party.
"Matthew!" I called as I ran into the barn. "Hey Matt you in here?" I looked around but I couldnt find him. Everything was put away, Shaymin was in his stall resting and eating. But where was Matt? Did he sneak into the house and I didn't notice? I checked in his room but he wasn't there.
I walked over to Shaymin's stall when I noticed a piece of paper pinned to the ribbon that hung off Shay's stall door. I saw my name faintly written in pencil on the paper, I reached out and unpinned it from the stall and opened it.
As I read threw the note I was sort of in disbelief. I though it was just a joke.
I ran out from the barn around to the back where Mathew kept his truck.
It was gone.
And so was he ...
