Draco walked out of his muggle studies exam only to see Weasley and Finnigan running around like headless chickens. He, Blaise, Goyle and Theo decided to go down to the Quidditch pitch before heading out for a celebratory drink in the Three Broomsticks later, as they had now completed their schooling.
Draco went up to his quarters to change. He expected to see Hermione, but she wasn't there.
'Probably with the Weaslette." He thought.
He got into his Quidditch gear and grabbed his broomstick before heading downstairs. He looked at his broomstick, it was falling apart. He needed a new one. His thoughts wandered. Somehow they changed from thinking about a new broom to teaching his child how to play Quidditch.
The thought of his child growing in Hermione's belly sent a rush excitement through his whole body. If anyone had told him a year ago he would be excited about having a child, he would have sent them to St. Mungo's but now, nine months seemed like eternity.
He met Theo in the entrance hall. The Slytherin boys played two on two until they had to get ready to head over to Hogsmeade. Hermione still wasn't home, he grew worried. Blaise reassured him she was probably getting ready with Ginny Weasley.
It was in the Three Broomsticks that Draco saw Neville Longbottom.
"Oi Malfoy, Dean told me to tell you that Hermione's still in St. Mungo's?"
Panic filled Draco. What was wrong with Hermione? Was there something wrong with the baby? Why was Dean with her?
"Why is Hermione in St. Mungo's?!" He asked, his voice cracking.
"Lavender went into labour this morning and Hermione found her. Dean, Ginny and Hermione brought her to St. Mungo's." Neville said casually with his charming smile that had every girl around him going weak at the knees.
"Oh. Was that why Weasley was freaking out this morning?" Draco asked.
Neville laughed. "Yep, but Lavenders fine though. She had a healthy baby girl."
Draco looked at his empty drink. He suddenly didn't want to go out he wanted to be with his pregnant wife.
He said his goodbyes and went outside where he apparated to the hospital.
Hermione sat holding her best friends little girl. Ron went to get them tea. She stroked the baby girls face with her fingers.
"She's gorgeous." Hermione whispered.
She was small because she was premature but she was healthy. The healer had said she was a brave, strong girl. She had Lavenders blond hair and Ron's blue eyes.
"Um Hermione?" Lavender asked.
"Yes."
"Thank you so much. For everything." She thanked her.
"Lavender I hardly did anything." Hermione said modestly.
"You came, you stayed, you helped. And Ron and I were wondering if you wanted to be her godmother?" Lavender said smiling.
"Oh Lavender! I'd be honoured, but wouldn't you want Parvati or Padma or Ginny to be godmother?" Hermione said with happy tears filling her eyes.
"We're actually having two of each you and Ginny, and anyway she agrees you'll be a brilliant godmother." Lavender said certainly.
Hermione stood up from her seat and hugged the girl she had grown so close to over the last year. She then kissed her goddaughter on her forehead.
Ron came through the doors.
"So you said yes." Ron said smiling ear to ear.
Hermione smiled at him.
