There was no wind and no noise. Even though Annabeth's eyes were open she couldn't see a thing. Groaning she tried to stretch her stiff muscles and test for injury, but was restrained from doing so by some sort of tight material that constricted her body.

That was strange. Annabeth knew that she had been out for a while because her entire body was numb. Her aching head was begging her to go back asleep, but she knew that she had to stay conscious.

The thought struck her so suddenly that she let out a small gasp. She was in Tartarus. The memories of the day before (or at least she assumed it was the day before) flashed in her mind. Following the Mark of Athena, hurting her ankle, fighting Arachne, saving the Athena Parthenos and falling into Tartarus with Percy...

Percy! Where was he?! Annabeth started to panic. She struggled in her bonds, ignoring the pain in her ankle. She cried out in frustration when her bonds wouldn't budge. Tears welled in her eyes, she had gone so far, suffered so much, just to lose Percy in this stupid black hole?!

The sudden sound of something large moving towards her caused Annabeth to freeze. Her heart hammered against her chest, making the task of breathing quietly a million times harder. Annabeth stared straight into the darkness, she felt as though her eyes were bulging out of her skull as she tried to bore through the inky blackness to see the thing that approached.

Realizing that she was doomed for failure, Annabeth instead concentrated on preparing herself for the worst. Taking a deep breath, she calmed herself and scanned the dark. Bingo. A little to her left was a large patch of darkness that was blacker than the others. The shadow slowly grew, becoming clearer as it drew closer.

Panic welled in Annabeth's throat as she realized that her suspicions were correct. The thing that came to get was none other than Arachne. Her bone chilling voice cut through the slience like butter, raspy, hissing and pure evil. "Daughter of Athena........ I see you are awake" Annabeth's jaw clenched, it seemed that Arachne had been waiting for her to regain conciousness. Annabeth remembered now, just before she passed out she had seen Arachne's disgusting face. She realized that Arachne was holding her captive, the bonds that held her were now obviously Arachne's web.

"What do you want you stupid insect?" Annabeth called to the general direction of Arachne. She heard an angry hiss at that blasé comment. It seemed that the queen of Arachnids didn't appreciate being associated with the same family as mosquitos and flies. "You ignorant little mortal! Your foolish comments do not discoursge me! Soon your unworthy corpse will be rotting on the floors of Tartarus!" Annabeth gulped, she needed a plan and she needed one fast. She still didn't know where Percy was, so she decided to try her luck.
