Kaylee:

Summer. Finally. Sleeping in until noon, pool, vacation, and killing brain cells, no more homework. But summer also meant boys. I hope and I wish every summer that boys will grow up and be well...ya know... suitable for dating. I'm entering 7th grade next year. And oh I just hope those boys grow up because I really desperately want a boyfriend...someone to talk to and brag about, but unfortunately most of the boys in my grade at RidgeWood Middle School, still like Pokemon, Hot Wheels, and can't stop talking about sports. I know the perfect guy is out there waiting to ask me out and I just hope it will be soon.

Ethan:

"We're here!" chirps my mom. By here she means our new house. After Dad died she has been wanting to move. Did she ask me? No. Did I want to? No. But I know I'll just have to work things out. I step into our house as Mom is cautioning the guys from the moving truck to "be careful with her snow globe collection". My phone vibrates in my pocket and I am thrilled to see my best friend, Kris has texted me. "Miss you already dude!" I text him back a quick "miss you too" then I go to my room. I need to be alone for awhile. I truly did miss Kris. I start texting him...we talk about everything from basketball to friends. We talk about my new school, RidgeWood Middle School and how it will never be the same as Main Street Middle. And then he brings up the subject of girls. Girls...you see my friends all have girlfriends and are always nagging me on how I need to get one. They are always pointing out girls who would date me but none of them make my heart beat...so I'm just waiting for that girl. And maybe Kris is right. He said maybe I'll find my first love at RidgeWood. I doubt it but maybe...and if I did it would defiantly impress my friends-just maybe...

Kaylee: "Me and Olivia are going to that new park, you should come too."

"Mom..." I groaned. I did NOT want to go to a park with my little 3 year old sister. I was way to old for that...and besides it would ruin my rank at the social class at school.

"There's a basketball court there."  Basketball? My ears perked up. I loved basketball. I was good at it too. I never missed. Never. When I played basketball the world melted away and it was just me and the ball and the hoop.

"Ok! I'll come" I say. Yay! I quickly put on my basketball shoes and grabbed my basketball and ran out the door. Basketball here I come!

Ethan: "Why don't I take you to this new park, Ethan? It has a basketball court!" my mom says happily wanting me to "fit in". I don't want to hurt her feelings so I grab my AirJordans I got for Christmas and head out the door. As soon as I got there I ran to the court. Playing Basketball was a need for me not a want. I loved it. I started shooting some hoops and warming up. Then I dribbled around the court until I got to the three pointer line and "swoosh" the ball goes in and the crowd goes wild...It's only a few minutes later when a girl comes in to shoot some hoops too. At first I don't notice her then when I see her face my heart bounces. She was beautiful with her silky dark brown hair flowing down until her waist and her bright blue eyes. She was good too. And she never missed. Never.

"Wow, your great!" I blurted out, "I'm Ethan."

Kaylee:

"I'm Kaylee..." I said blushing. Wow this guy was cute. What was I thinking? He probably would never go for a girl like me. I wasn't exactly considered popular at my school...he probably was in high school or something I never saw him here before. I quickly blinked back into reality and saw him just standing there.

"Want to play some 1 on 1?" he asked. I smiled and nodded. We played and he was better than I thought. It ended as me winning, 31 to 29. Close match. We sat on the side and chatted for a while about books and basketball games. Oddly, we never talked or mentioned anything about our personal lives. I know this sounds like a perfect-first-relationship-that-never-happens-in-real -life-only-in-movies kinda thing but this was real and I never saw him again...that summer. When I left the court the only thing I knew about him was his name. Even though I never saw him again that summer that wasn't the last time I would see him.
