Just a girl turned 18

She ran away to chase her dreams

And they said she wouldn't make it far

She took a chance and packed her bags

She left town and didn't look back

So tired of wishing on the stars

My name is Charlie McAllister and this is my story. I'm not going to tell you that I'm perfect or that I'm special, because I'm not. I'm not gonna tell you I have OUTRAGEOUS problems or issues. I'm just an 18 year old girl moving away for college. Nothing weird there but just telling you that leaves a lot of plot holes. That's why this is a story, not a summary. So it all started when I was accepted to college but that's not really a good place to start. How about when...'He' walked in.

It was my second week of living in Sydney, Australia. I had gotten a job fairly easy behind the counter of the 'Electric Monkey' record store. The record store isn't EXACTLY the busiest place ever so naturally I spend my free time playing music and drawing or writing in my notebook. I was drawing a picture when the bell rang signalling a customer. I continued what I was doing as I heard a someone clear their throat, obviously wanting my attention. So naturally, I acted like any normal adult, I looked up. Oh, and did I regret it.

There stood a lanky legged blond. His black skinny jeans clung to his legs like a second skin, and his tanktop sat loosely against his torso. His hair messily stuck upwards giving you a clearer view of his face. Pale blue eyes contrasted deeply with his fair skin, as a black ring dark against his bottom lip sat between his teeth. Bracelets littered both of his arms in many colors and different bands like 'Nirvana', 'All Time Low', and 'Green Day'.

He looks around the store, taking in his new found surroundings. Finding my attention was not needed, I looked back at my notebook and continuing my drawing. Though I wasn't looking up I could feel his gaze burning through me, making me a little self conscious to my care free appearance. Yet again, I heard the unforgiving sound of someone clearing their throat, this time closer than before.

Hesitantly, I looked up ever so slightly, peering through my eyelashes up at the tall figure in front of the counter. I opened my mouth to speak, but my voice felt weak. His presence was unnerving, making my voice seem so small. I could feel my hands shake vigorously as I thought, 'No, this can't be happening, I'm not cowering down to him, this can't happen'. With that thought, I pushed my body off the counter, straightening my back, and looking him right in the face. With my voice laced in my new found confidence, I opened my mouth, "Can I help you?"

His cold black lip ring sat between his teeth, as if he was actually pondering an answer. "Maybe you can," he responded, avoiding eye contact. He was lost in his thoughts. Turning his face towards me his eyes bore into mine. He seemed to be deeply thinking about his next move, as if he were afraid of saying something wrong. I hunched over the counter, setting my chin atop my hand, realizing this was going to take longer than expected.

He looked nervous, completely different from the confident posture he had minutes before. His eyes wandered around before landing on the prominent black constellations littered across my forearm. He seemed at a loss for words, while I was at a loss for patience. "Holy fucking shit, why me god damn it i'm fucking dying of the awkwardness! What the hell was he doing? Its like were in middle school playing an awkward game of who can give the most awkward eye contact to the opposite gender! And shit I think i'm losing to this cocky-ass bastard!"

I was getting distracted, and I was uncomfortable with the current situation. I started looking through a stack of records as he wandered around the small store. He would occasionally glance over at me and look away and i'd play along and pretend I didn't notice. He eventually walked towards the counter where I was sorting countless records and admiring the cover art. '21 Guns' blasted in the background as I hummed the beat occasionally tapping against the counter. He started to once again, hold his lip ring between his teeth as he bit his lip.

He glanced around at me again this time speaking. "So you like 'Green Day' huh?" He asked as I, once again looked up from my notebook. "Yeah, there an amazing band" I responded nonchalantly. He grinned "What's your favorite song?". "'Boulevard of Broken dreams' or 'Amy'." He nodded at my response. "You know," he said "Your a very intriguing person". His words had taken me back a bit 'Since when have I been particularly interesting?'

I ran a hand through my short brown curls and pushed up my large black frames. I finally noticed him looking at me as our eyes locked, both slightly flustered. He approached the counter setting down the album '!DOS!' by 'Green Day' which ironically enough held the song 'Amy'. I smiled as I picked up the album and scanned it "This would be my personal recommendation" I said as he payed for the item and I bagged it. He signed the receipt and handed it back to me. He smiled and waved before taking his leave from the store. Looking closely at the receipt there was writing on the back. "Huh?" I turned the receipt over and clear as day it said 'Great taste in music call me sometime id love to hear some more of your "personal recommendations" 011612-698-4873

-Luke'

The first thing to run through my head as I read it was 'Did I just get hit on?'
