Stella's POV

As the Blood Alpha of this particular TALE agency, it's my job to come and greet the newbie, Evan Rider, and his mate. I've brought along some agents he will work with, as I normally do, even though this addition is nothing close to normal.

None of the others know anything about him, as Blood Alpha Cooper recommended I keep that information to myself. Evan doesn't know it, but I saw him at a mating ceremony recently. When I learned he would work for TALE, I asked the Council to send him to me.

No wolf alive at the time will forget the Wolf Camp Massacre. Blood Alpha Sand's daughter was full of vengeance, which in turn caused her death. Last week, her father went after Luna Sinclair, sealing his own fate.

That chapter of wolf folklore is finally over.

As the original target, the death and destruction almost destroyed Evan. It destroyed others. His strength in overcoming it is precisely what I want in my agents, as we all have powerful demons that we fight on a daily basis.

For me, it was a shock to everyone when my wolf emerged five days after my thirteenth birthday. Only Blood Alphas emerge within the first week. My pack no longer existed, thank the goddess, so I went to the Mahani for training. This happens quite a bit as rogues or other packs destroy packs. Usually, the new Blood Alpha will eventually pull the pack back together.

I could have asked the Council to reconstruct my pack, but I had no desire to try. Not wanting any connection to those horrible wolves, I went so far as to change my last name to the pack that adopted my family within the first few months of arriving.

This meant my choices were either to take over a pack that needed a stand-in Blood Alpha or go to TALE to run one of their agencies. I chose TALE.

Every country has vast areas with no packs, and the rogues gather there. The Council makes sure each of these areas has its own TALE agency. This one patrols Kielder Forest in the upper part of England, a reasonable distance from where I was born and raised in the Highlands of Scotland.

Right now, in this beautiful place, eight of us are arriving on this poor man's doorstep without notice. As our two Jeeps enter his driveway, I see him walk out from the backyard. I chuckled to myself as I realized he probably already has company.

Out of habit, I studied this man standing in an Alpha warrior pose as we exited the vehicles. He never wavered or moved. His eyes never left mine. This should be fun.

"At ease, Alpha. I am Blood Alpha Roberts. You may call me Roberts, as the others do. We are not strict here. How are you settling in?" To say he was taken aback was putting it lightly. Blood Alphas don't allow anyone but family to call them by name, whether first or last.

"We are doing well, Bl—uh, Roberts. My mate and I, with my mother, worked well into the night, and the house is quite comfortable." Evan Rider stuttered out.

This name thing is going to be difficult for him. Out of respect, he learned to use that title for all Blood Alphas his whole life.

"The school principal is thrilled to have your mom join their ranks." Pausing to make the next line seem natural, I continued with the normal queries. "I understand your mate did not leave her job and will telecommute." Even though his scent would give him away, I worded it specifically not to give any extra clues to the others.

"She did not leave her job when we moved here," Evan confirmed. "My mother is eager to work again." He seems to have trouble just having a normal conversation with me. They all start that way.

"Allow me to introduce you to your fellow officers."

I may have snickered when I noticed his confusion about whether to take his eyes off me. I will break him of those pack habits fast.
