Donald had a wooden horse wich is old.He had had Dobbin since he was two,and he was now seven,so you can tell how old the wooden horse was.

He has lost all of his red paint, and his four wheels were rather loose and wobbly. He still had quite a fine mane, but his tail, alas, was gone! His mother did once cut some lenghts of wool and tried to stick them on far a tail for Dobbin, but they wouldn't stick. So he hadn't any tail at all,and Donald was always rather sorry about it.

"It makes Dobbin look strage,"he tought."But he's a dear old horse and I love him.I shall never give him away.It would make him unhappy."

Donald always took Dobbin out once a week into the garden. He was fair to all his toys and tried to play with them in turn,so that none of them should feel left out.He thought it must be dreadful to be put on a shelf and not taken any notice of at all for months.

So Dobbin was taken out into the garden and ridden on Every Saturday that was fine.Donald could ride on him quite well by scuffling along the ground with his feet. Then Dobbin ran along on his four wheels.

Now one day a most extraordinary thing happened. It was all because Donald thought of taking Dobbin into the lane that ran at the bottom of the garden.

"We'll go out of the into the lane and go to the oak-trees there and see if any acorns are falling,"said Donald to that I expect there will be heaps."

So out of the gate and into the lane they went.Donald rode on Dobbin to the oak-trees_ and when he got there he stopped in surprise.

Somebody else was there! It was small man with a very long beard,a green tunic, and an enormously large hat with a yellow feather in it!He was collecting acorns in the basket.

He didn't see Donald because he had his back to him.He didn't hear him coming either, because the wind was making such a tremendous noise in the trees.
