Would you be happier if your father and I weren't together?

I don't know. It would be less stressful at least. I wouldn't have to listen to the raised voices late at night, and every time they see each other it's a fight match.

Maybe it would be peaceful. They wouldn't pay any attention to me, that would be good. They'd be caught up in their own lives to worry about me. I could be alone.

"Jax."

I look up at the sound of my name. Keenai is staring at me, looking for an answer.

"Sorry, what?" I look back at him, blankly.

"Can you at least try to listen to me? This project is due next week and we still haven't figured out the layout."

"Yeah, okay." I try to concentrate on my friend, but all I can think about is the red.
