"The country that rose up out of the ashes that was once called United Kingdom. The disasters, the droughts, the storms, the fires, the encroaching seas that swallowed up Scotalnd, Wales, Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland. Battle over these lands lasted decades until a woman, my great grandmother, Samantha Sleet of Gloustershire, spoke of a decision in which everyone worked in harmony. The result was Pandora, a shining Capitol ringed by twelve districts, which brought peace and prosperity to its citizens. Then came the World Wars, the uprising of the districts against the Capitol. All twelve were defeated. The Charter of Conformity gaves us the new laws to guarantee peace and, as our yearly reminder that the World Wars must never be repeated, it gave us the Hunger Games. And every 5 years, as a reminder of the Capitol strength and the Districts powerlessness, a gender and an age shall be picked to compete in these annual Hunger Games. As for this year, The 75th Hunger Games will consist of 13-year-old-girls all over the country. May the odds be ever in your favour!"
