One in the morning, and the baby is screaming again. The brother reaches out to comfort her, but there's no way she will calm down by just rocking her. The lights flicker on across the hall, and he stays still, his bruised eyes perfectly closed. The room's light comes on, and the man walks up to the child and snatches her away from the boy, smacking her for screaming. She only continued to yell and screech, as infants usually do, but this time the young boy couldn't take it. He jumped up and hit the big man where it hurt, catching the baby and running. The door was locked, and he fussed with the lock for a matter of seconds before he heard heavy steps behind him. The door came unlocked and he held the baby close to him as he ran into the night.
