The boy's eyes widened as he took in the sights around him. Somewhere, a clock rang out the time, two long peals of a large bell. As he walked through downtown New York City, the baby squirmed restlessly. The night was pretty cold for a typical mid-June night, but it was warm enough for the pair to travel the city, one in sweats and the other in a onesie.
As they continued, the boy bumped clumsily into a dirty-looking old woman who promptly spat curses at him. Wide-eyed and terrified, he scampered away from the strange woman.The boy soon grew tired as the sun crawled up past the mountains and he searched for a place to bring his sister so they could both sleep. His legs felt heavy and he was still carrying the baby in his arms, though she now began to awaken and cry out of hunger. The boy opened his eyes up as much as he could because of the small alleyway he found. The two slowly walked through, finding a hole in the foundation of the building big enough to fit them both. He tried to make sure they were both comfortable, then drifted off..
