"Chloe, do you honestly think this is going to work?"

Chloe stands on top of a chair, carefully placing a bucket of ice water on it's edge.

"You do know you could go wait outside, right Max? I'm not forcing you to be in here."

"How are you going to get out of here? And don't you think Nathan is going to be suspicious that his dorm is open? He'll know someone's been in here."

"I'll climb out the window, of course. And he'll be drunk from the stupid Vortex Club party, so he won't even notice."

Max hesitated, and started toward the door. She nodded toward it, and Chloe opened it wide enough for Max to slip out without getting soaked. Before she left, she turned to Chloe.

"Just make sure nobody sees you, okay? Head straight to my room when you're done, I'll be there later."

"What you got a date with someone? With Waaaarreeen?" Chloe snickered and rolled her eyes. "Whatever. I'll be there."

Max nodded, and left.

She walked down the hall, and exited the building through the side door. Max lay down on the grass, and stared up into the sky. The moon was barely visible behind the clouds, but it illuminated enough for Max to see the things surrounding her. No stars. How sad.

She closed her eyes, and listened to the sounds around her; the rustle of the trees in the wind, the cicadas in the forest, the gentle hum of a transformer.

"Oh shit!" the sound of a glass bottle breaking.

Max sat up, and looked around her. She couldn't see where the disturbances had come from, but she knew who caused it. Nathan.

Sure enough, Max saw Nathan staggering into view. He wobbled his way toward the doors of the dorm, but stopped when he spotted her.

"Max Caulfield!" he practically yelled as he walked toward Max.

"Nathan be quiet! You're gonna wake everyone up!"

He leaned toward Max, and whispered, "Max Caulfieeeeeld!"

He laughed, and fell onto the grass beside Max.

"So what is the famous Max doing outside the boys' dormitory at such a late hour? You waiting for someone?" He paused. "You waiting for Warren?"

He asked the last part with a bitter expression on his face.

"Uh, no, I was just walking around, and ended up here."

He fell back into the grass, and let out a sigh. His arms were sprawled at his side, a small grin on his face. He turned his head, and looked up at Max.

Her hair was getting long, just brushing her shoulders. She looked as doe-eyed as usual, but it suited her.

He propped himself up on his elbows.

"Ya know, Maxwell, you're really pretty."

Max was taken aback by his sudden comment. A compliment coming from Nathan Prescott, the angry little rich boy who hated anyone who wasn't in the Vortex Club, was a rare occurance.

"Uh, thanks. You don't look too shabby yourself, except for, ya know, you look like you're dead."

He laughed at her half-assed compliment, and sat up, slinging an arm around her shoulders.

"We have the world, Max, in the palm of our hands. We could do anything, become anything we want. Be with anyone we want. Soon, we'll be living our dreams. We just gotta level up, and just. DO IT!" he practically screamed in her ear, and erupted in laughter, falling onto his back.
